On all 5 series, they are optional.

They tend to disappear during shipping. The cars go through a lot of places where people seem to have sticky fingers. My current M5 was my first car the first aid kit made it to me. The first 3 ... nope.

I was given advice to pull all that stuff out before shipping (first aid kit, warning triangle etc) I hear stuff comes up missing going through customs.

Yes, and for my F10 I did ED and I packed everything that was not nailed down into my bag. But all of my previous BMWs were regular US delivery so did not have the option to pull the stuff out prior to shipping.

After ED we were told to take the manual, triangle, and the emergency kit out which I did. Now I see why, but that sucks people steal them ........guess if it's not nailed down it goes. They should replace at the VPC which makes sense.

Why would you assume they are "stolen" ? Actually, everything is removed from the car at the German port the car was not federalized with. Since US cars were not federalized with the triangles and first aid kits the port officials have no choice but to remove the items. No need to remove the manuals; I've done 11 ED's and the manuals always are in the car at redelivery.

This is the same reason you can't load up your new ride with aftermarket stuff while in Germany

Your ED car will be supplied with brand new US spec mats when it is redelivered. Sometimes ED cars are supplied with Euro spec mats in Munich and other times they come "bare" - not sure why.

Because the mats have to be thrown away as they are not part of the car. The car cannot be imported with anything not physically part of the car.
