My turn .... Drivetrain Warning message

BIMMERPOST

For the drivetrain warning. The car sounds like it is misfiring really badly. It happened at start up this morning.

Will let you know what caused it when I find out

Doing a lot of launch control starts by any chance?

Aussie F10M as you know I've had it twice, once at around 7 km and again at around 600 km. Dealership said it's because of bad fuel, which I doubt is the case.

Either way, I'm now at almost 6000 km and haven't had it since.

No. Have not launched the car yet. Not shy about giving it some revs, but never launched.

Thanks singularity. I have only ever put 98 fuel in the car - I am very careful about that. I agree with you that it is unlikely to be fuel related. I will let you know what my SA says tomorrow when I take the car in.

I bet something is buggy... The hardware and software on these cars are so complex now...

They finally get it all right only in the last one or two production years of the model.

Actually, considering the complexity of current cars, I think they'll be moving on to the next model before getting a chance to fix all the bugs in the previous one.

Turns out it is a software fault in the cold start routine. Apparently there is a software update which they are loading into the car now which should fix the problem.
