Recall notice: retrofit heat protection mat to coolant lines

See pdf attached.

I have a MY2014 M5, and I just got this from local dealership as I am going for service. They said this was recently issued, and will be checked/fixed once I bring the car in.

This is news to me, does anyone else MY14 M5 got this? any concerns?

Interesting as the date issue is Sept 22, 2014.
I thought maybe this is just for the M5/M6 turocharger issues..

Cause i had extensive leaking, so they did it awhile ago, but now they are doing it for everyone, even if there is no leak

I had the leak back last year and the correct fix was not what this TSB called for, it was fixed by putting sleeves over the tubing and using screws to tighten on the sleeves. The coolant pressure was too much for the ordinary factory clamp to hold on.

So the dealer fix is no good?

I don't know.

Based on my experience, TCBMW tried to put in new clamps (jut like the factory) and they ran them for pressure testing and found they new ones did not hold (same result - failure with coolant leaking still). They then spent two days contacting Germany and see what the next fix and the result was the method I described. Afterwards, they did the full pressure test and the new sleeves/screws held with no issue. After having driven for another 1 year since, they fix held up very nicely.

I wonder if I should tell them not to fixed. Or take my chances.

Probably just let them do it and see..

well. You can check yours now and see if there are any greenish residual. If you do, you have a leak.

Don't ignore this as the coolant can enter into your engine and ... well, you don't want to know the end result, even though it's under warranty.

Recall

Orich

If you don't currently have a leak, all they will do is fit the protective mats over the rubber unions, as it is the heat that is causing them to fail.
My service advisor said that they now have a modified part if there are leaks found, however they still fit the heat mats.
Hope that this helps.

Under the engine cover. You can see 2 tubes going under the cover and split into 4 tubes then connected to the engine as illustrated in pdf

I had a coolant leak this summer and the car had to go in because it was overheating. This may have been the reason. They will be fixing it along with my hpfp tomorrow.

one of the first sign of the coolant leak is you will be getting (repeated) "Low coolant" message and even after you have topped it up, this message will come and go. Thus, you will have to check the coolant tubings to confirm.

I have a 14' but don't think I have received anything. I'm going to call in the morning to see if my VIN is included... I really don't like taking my car anywhere near the dealer...
