There are some rumours that the new steering wheel may become a option or standard in the M5 soon.
The 3 Series M Sport model also gets a similar steering wheel to the M6
That would be cool.

Looks like the M6 steering wheel has the split down the vertical spoke and the F30 M sport one doesn't.

There is also a split in silver trim on the bottom spoke of the M6 Steering wheel and the M colored stitching, otherwise it is the same wheel as the 3 Series M-Sport.

In theory I don't see why it won't fit on the M5 just as long as the harness and the steering wheel module is the same...

Looks like this wheel will be in the F80 M3. I'm sure a retrofit will be possible once the first brave soul takes the plunge.

Ehh, i think the wheel in the M6 looks appropriate for a coupe, but wouldn't look right in the M5.....not saying the steering wheel in the M5 is the best looking thing either though....

Actually the 3 series wheel is better. It has chunkier paddles just like on the 5 series, whereas the M6 paddles are thinner.

When I tested out the M6 wheel i found the paddles would bend if i pulled hard. Seemed flimsy to me. The M5 paddles are much better. The 3 series M Sport wheel has the sporty design of the M6 with the better functionality of the M5 paddles.

I ordered the M6 wheel for retrofit and currently waiting for the stocks to arrive. Will update once installed!

I think the F10 M5 steering wheel is hideous. I still prefer this one from the E60 M5:

you absolutely can do it. any dealer who tells you otherwise is retarded (unfortunately most r).

the trouble is this - the good ol german boys who iron their underwear every morning before going to the factory wont install the m6 wheel on the 5 no matter how much u beg them to. what you do is get delivery of the 5, order an m6 wheel thru ur dealer (i heard 500-1000$ estimate), then have your dealer take out the stock 5 wheel and install the 6 wheel - 1000-1500$ estimate, since there is airbag mumbo-jumbo they have to take care of (right).

so for the math geeks keeping tabs on the numbers - ur talking 1500-2500$ for the m6 wheel. oh, and dont think anyone will give you a penny in credit for that shiny new 5 wheel from the factory.. they put that in a grocery bag and hand it to u. i suggest taking it to germany and throwing it thru the window of the headquarters for being bullheaded and stupid. i mean come on, its not like there's not a rack full of steering wheels there they can just make use of - they choose not to. annoying.

thought about the change myself - but that kind o loot is a little too crazy for a car destined to be leased...

Nothing on the M5 wheel can be re-used from what i was told. The whole wheel with assorted parts have to be ordered wholesale including airbag. The cost is around USD$5k. Due to there being air bag involved in the retrofit, dealers will not perform the install. A trusted fren of mine is willing to help me with the install.

the dealer will touch it. think about it - r u saying that if you are in a fender bender and the bag deploys, the dealer says "gee that sux, good luck to u". a half-brained authorized service center can do it.

the dealer will do the swap - for crisp cool cash.

i don't see why this can't be a direct swap with no programming needed. It appears functions are shared on both wheels, you may need to splice some wires....

Direct swap means the entire M6 wheel including assorted parts and airbag can be swapped over to the M5 without any cutting or wiring tweak. From what i was told by the trusty parts guy, all the connectors are exactly the same. I doubt any programming will be involved.

I believe I know who you are referring to. Let me know it turn out although I have the alcantara on order. Btw the Akra sounds disappointing.
