ED Welt Experience, What Didn't Happen

Two weeks out and watching the clock tick until my 10/1/12 Delivery ... I thought I'd ask all of the early September ED'ers if there was anything about the Welt Delivery that they had pre-concieved notions and/or look back now and wish they would have been told or asked about??

I would ask (channeling BarryB): "In the unlikely event of a serious malfunction, what will you guys do to ensure that my trip continues uninterrupted, including continuous access to an F10 M5?"

Beyond that, I thought the whole experience was awesome.

One tip: if you have a morning delivery, don't eat breakfast. The food at Welt looked better than the hotel's, but we had already eaten!

also if your traveling to other countries make sure you buy toll passes, I got hit a couple of times cause I didnt have the stickers. Also the food at the Welt looked good, but it was selective. Good beverages and fruits, but no real sustinance.

Take the triangle, first aid kit, tow hook and owners manual. Plus anything else you see loose in the car. Pack in home, don't leave it. I forgot the manual.

Put a note (there is one online in many languages) asking them to leave the euro plates in the trunk. Those are cool for the garage wall.

If your are doing the 3 series factory tour, which I recommend, take it well after or before you get your car. We had to rush from the car to make the tour, wanted more time with the car. 1 hour goes fast!

Bring cash!! It's $50 to have BMW drive your car to the port or $75 to flat bed it to the port. Cash only, no cards. Also, ATM is screwy.

Use the free lockers in the lounge. You acquire stuff from BMW, you also get €10 free to use in the gift shop and carrying that around is a pain. We didn't have time to go back s we lugged it most of the day.

Read all the literature online and type up a cheat sheet to look at, the experience is so cool you can get overwelmed and forget stuff.

Make sure you know all the driving laws of every country you end up visiting. For example, Austria requiring toll ticket and safety vest in car. One of the other board members got pulled over and luckily had the right stuff.

Also parking is in tight spaces. Didnt like my new M5 parked that close to other cars.

I would definitely ask that.

A few things:
1) you can check in earlier than the appointment time. It is only the delivery time that is fixed. So if you want your free museum pass and store credit earlier then check in earlier.
2) they have a factory tour every day at 1130am which you have to schedule yourself.
3) they also offer an engineering briefing on the car while you wait for delivery if you schedule it. It is not so detailed you will learn anything new, but my girlfriend enjoyed it an appreciated the car more for it. The briefing includes a video game with a feedback steering wheel to demo the electronic systems. Again it will be fun for the girlfriend/wife.
4) given all if above, you could check in at 9am, see the museum, then go to factory tour. Come back and have product briefing at 2:30 and get car delivered at 3pm making it a full day.
5) Drive down to Garmisch Partenkirchen or Neuschanstein for a meal after delivery. Better than just driving around Munich.

Awesome info all, much appreciated!

We will channel the inner -BarryB and ask the question, the reply should be interesting!!

Stealth, you mentioned passes to the museum. We have a Monday morning delivery but arrive early Sunday. Since it appears the museum is closed on Mondays, we planned on doing the Museum on Sunday prior to delivery. Anyone know if we are able to get museum passes in advance or where to go to ask (perhaps the welt reception desk)?

Thanks again all!

1. I wished I had been able to do late morning or early afternoon delivery. I only had 10 min to rest before pick up at 9 am. Leave yourself plenty of time.

2. Should take more picture during the delivery. We were in a rush to go to m studio. So miss chance to take more picture.

3. The welt shop does not open until after 9. So if you want to buy things, do it on Sunday.

I don't think you will be able to get your passes on Sunday. You get the passes and shop credit when you check-in (sign all the paperwork) up in the premium lounge. Since that section is closed because they don't do deliveries on Sunday, I don't think you can check in that day.

Question for fellow ED'ers. Outside of a special event, is there anything to see or do in Garching at the M studio? Any reason I would want to drive there from Munich?

Can't hurt to call the special sales number on the reservation letter you received and ask if they can mail the museum passes to you or have them delivered to your hotel on the Sunday you arrive.

One thing that I would do differently would be to visit the Welt before delivery day for shopping and check-in. I'd leave the delivery day for only delivery and savor every moment. IMHO it went by very, very quickly. Too quick

This. Don't worry about details, just live the moment.
