Side Dimming Mirrors- Not dark/dimming enough
Any one experiences the same thing? My rear view mirror dims perfectly in night time driving. The exterior side mirrors, however, doesn't seem to dim or dim very little in night time driving.
I was trying to adjust the sensitivity of the dimming function but had no luck. All my previous BMWs, E46, E90, E92, X3 didn't have this problem before. I may ask my SA about this in break in service due in 10 days. **Note: Did a quick search and found few 13 X3 owners also have the same situation. http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=704761 "Quote: Originally Posted by 862743 Just to let you all know that my 2013 X3 (with premium package) both side mirrors do not dim - no reduction in glare from behind head lights at night. I suspect faults in the electrical wiring (the dimming function requires small voltage supply to the glass) or the glass, or simply wrong glass (without dimming function). Will bring it in and expect the dealer/BMW to fix. I won't except "this is the way it works". This was the FIRST thing I noticed with my 2013. The simplest thing you can do is in the sunlight put your hand behind the mirror, watch it dim, and notice the side view mirrors DO NOT DIM. This is a feature included in the PREMIUM PACKAGE which I have. OF NOTE though, I did notice the side view mirrors dim in a VERY SPECIFIC instance on the highway where it was very dark, I was the only one on the road, and someone with bright headlights was a very specific distance from me. This leads me to believe it isn't the mirrors that are bad, yet the sensor, or sensitivity of the side mirrors. This is definitely an issue, we're not idiots here. I've been driving BMWs since 2007 and all of them with the premium package - a little unusual for this to be the first thing I noticed. I'd love to hear others input. What I'm going to do is I'm going to go outside in the dark tomorrow and shine a flashlight in the sensor to see if I can force them to dim." __________________

I've also noted that the mirrors aren't as dim as I would like them to be.

Also found this thread from the F30 forum. http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687458
Summary of what my finding: 1) Seems like a trend now in the 12-13 model that the exterior mirrors don't dim as much as the older cars did. 2) European models don't seem to have this change 3) It could be due to newer regulation? 4) The exterior mirrors may act on their own and don't act with the interior rear view mirror sensor. They could act from the camera on itself. 5) Dealer may be able to change the coding to change the sensitivity I will reach out to my SA to find out if there is any way to change this.

I personally have not noticed this problem but I do believe you all when you say that they are not dimming as dark as they should.
I think the reason why I may not have noticed this problem as much is because I have tinted my front windows to 15% on each side. I am going to be getting my F10 coded soon though for the remote control side view mirror fold, remote control windows up, etc.. etc.. and I'll see if the side view mirror auto dimming can be coded as well. After I do the coding I'll report back here to let everyone know if it is possible.

Well, let me also add some update to this thread. My SA said there is no way to adjust the sensitivity. I have learn to leave with it now.
The older BMW models do have far better sensitivity comparing to the F10's.

My side mirrors have 0 dim. What kind of garbage is this?! Last night I was blinded my entire drive home, stuck in traffic, with a truck behind me. Why won't my driver side mirror dim?!!!

I wonder if the non-us m5s have the same problem. Any one outside US can confirm this? Perhaps we can do retrofit with the euro version
