BMW M5 (F10) stock vs Audi R8 V10 stock

Both drivers agreed that it was a draw.

LOL. It is Russia! They give us the most pathetic drivers. Keep in mind, they never drove.

I disagree, to me it looks like they did race and from countless YouTube videos over the past years it's obvious that they rolled on the same highway popular for street racing in Moscow. As far as I know Moscow is one of world's most popular cities for street racing and aftermarket car tuning of supercars.

M5 is faster than R8 5.2 FSI (V10) according to 0-200 km/h so I see nothing wrong or funny there. I'm quite surprised R8 didn't lose due to parasitic loss due to AWD drivetrain.

Just came across this post after doing some searching and had to comment, I myself dont have the f10 M5 but have the R8 v10 spyder, and did a couple of runs this afternoon after an encounter with a blue f10 with straight pipes(which blew my ears out btw!) that video posted is so accurate i cant believe it. So surprised by the f10 since it literally was almost a dead even pull. Not gonna lie the DCT definitely helped the f10 since the R-tronic on the audi lacks a bit. Makes me want to UP my v10 now...

The new S-Tronic box in the R8, is the one to have. R-Tronic is not at all good, it defeats the object really. The R8 V10 S-Tronic, will be fantastic.

Everytime I had to shift, the R-tronic really lags and was so noticeable whereas it seemed the f10 was just cruising. This was all from a roll though and makes me wonder if the audi would be more advantageous from a dig

I just got a v10 r8---- it has the R tronic and it will beat an m5 from a dig with its AWD system. R tronic is basically an SMG3 tranny so one can bang out shifts but it works much better with the rpms up the range. Up top I have no doubt the M5 with its DCT would prevail; the AWD system just sucks out the power. But my god put an exhaust and the v10 sounds like no other. I love it.

The DCT in the M5 is the most surprising and fun in D3 mode on the highway. It will shift from 6th gear down 3rd in less than a blink of an eye very very smoothly and feels like warp drive when your at full throttle.

I've never driven an R8 with the R-Tronic before but man it must be fun to bang in those gears with the scream of a V10 behind you!

From a dig I would definitely assume that I could have put some distance between me an the M5, but damn from a roll I can't stop thinking about how the M5 performed against me... but then again the V10 sounds like a god ripping down the street though

Haha i have the DCT in my 335is (Even though its not an M) the car shifts so smooth and so quick that the transmission is a total upgrade compared to my Audi's gearbox(Then again the R-tronic has been around for about 5 years and they decide to upgrade it now) but wow I need to get a ride in the f10 M5

I do all my tests on D3. Only car that got me so far has been a 99 Camaro putting out 700 hp. D3 FTW.

The R-Tronic in the Audi, is not a proper twin clutch gearbox. It is an Automated manual, which means, when you shift, you should really lift the throttle, for a smooth shift. You can flat shift, but its like someone has stamped on the brake pedal for a split second. The DCT, and S-Tronic, are the real deal, proper twin clutch gearboxes, designed to shift without lifting, giving seamless acceleration. The R-Tronic will not compete with the twin clutch gearboxes. Maybe out of the hole, the Audis 4WD, will give it the edge, but after that, its losing time, on every shift. Now an R8 with S-Tronic will be fantastic, regards, SIMON.

Simon,
I never felt at WOT in Sport mode that an up shift felt like the brake had been stamped on. Rather it is like the car has been whacked with a bloody big baseball bat! lol. Not sure how good it is for the drivetrain either as it is a very forceful shock. At all other times, a slight lift as you pull the right hand paddle works wonders in smoothing out the up shifts as you mention.
