BMW M5 or M6 Gran Coupe?

Which one would you go for and why?

Thanks

Definitely the M5. M5 Looks are second to none. Additionally, the price for the M6 pushes you into another level of car that I would prefer. If I was buying a coupe, I would go Porsche or GTR.

My 2 cents...

M5 for sure

The M6 looks stunningly beautiful. It truly is a head turner. I am not sure about the ride, but I expect nothing less than the M5. On the other hand the M5 is a perfect blend of a lexuary comfortable sedan and a super car with perfect price tag.

M5. Best design BMW has made so far, looks aggressive, complete and proportional. It has a very manly presence on the road, on top of that it is more practical and costs slightly less.

I don't find F12/F13 attractive at all, they look too bland of a design and gentle for an M car. I was hoping that F12/F13 series would have the revolutionary beautiful design that E63/E64 had in 2004, but it wasn't the case at all.

I own the M5 but M6 GC is a really good looking car.
In my opinion, it's the best looking 4 door BMW ever designed.
Only down side is the price.
With more than 30k base price difference, M6 GC gets pushed into the other price range.
Also, BMW should have put in higher output engine than the M5's to justify the price of M6 GC.
At that price, I would go with 911 Turbo instead.

And so does the Gran Coupe. My dealership already had 2 Gran Coupes returned with a 20% price loss and a 7 series bought instead, with basic complaints like 'can't see where the nose of the car ends, and if i change position my head is hitting the ceiling'.

The M5 sets the benchmark for all 4 door Sports cars and it will continue. Im glad the M6GC is appealing to a lot of people because then I will see less F10 M5s . No doubt the m6gc is a nice car but in reality you simply cannot compare it to the m5. IMO

The M5 is more different from 5 M Sport than M6 is from 6 M Sport.

E.g.
M5 has rear spoiler M6 GC does not
M5 has fender vents M6GC does not
M5 has unique wider fenders M6GC has same body panels as regular model

Precisely. Nearly every post is a negative/misinformed one, methinks I suspect a perennial M5 hater...

The lack of a sunroof in the GC is a deal breaker for me.

M5 by a mile, the M6GC premium is ridiculous to buy you looks, which are relative, and exclusivity so you can compete with the Jones. I ordered an M5 yesterday and hesitated on the M6GC. For me, benefits of each:

M6:
Great styling, that is it

M5:
shorter
More functional back seat (often carry 5 people)
Higher roof on the back
Equally equipped is 22k + tax difference less than the M6

At that price point, does not make any sense to me to get an M6GC, even equally price the M5 is much better for me. Would get an Alpina or a Panamera GTS before an M6.

Currently in love my M5, and if I had the choice I would select the M5 again because of the following:

1) No difference in performance
2) currently have a convertible 650 AA my primary car, but the roof line is too low in the GC like my convertible.
3) M5 has more comfort and easier to drive IMO
4) I see no value in the dollar premium as all the creature comforts are the same just a different look.

If I would go up in price point I would get a Aston Martin Rapid which is drop dead gorgeous for few more dollar (:

Looked at both the 6 GC and the M5 at a dealership yesterday... still think M5 is better.

If I had to differentiate, I would say that the 6 is a subjectively better car from the steering wheel forward- better front, lights, and cockpit. The M5 is better from the driver's seat aft - more comfortable seating for driver, way better for aft passenger's, better sight lines, roof lines, back end, etc.

With the GC, I think BMW is trying too hard to make a 4 door coupe to compete with the Panamera, and charging a premium for it. The M5 (or 5 series for that matter) gives you all the same performance, and more room, for way less money.

On the whole I love the M6 aesthetics, and am debating whether to buy one for August ED or get another M5 instead.

There were three things I don't like about the M6 and the GranCoupe:

1) My head hits the roof when wearing a helmet

2) The seats are awful - they are very firm, and they have no upper body bolsters like the M5 seats. Basically the M6 seats are the M5 Sport seats with a nicer stitch pattern. But the M6 doesn't offer the M5's premium comfort seats which are much better and more like purpose made sports car seats (i.e. deep with more bolstering. So when racing in the M6 your upper body gets tossed around and your head can hit the windows at times.

3) No rear legroom with drivers seat positioned for a 6'0 driver. Literally the least rear leg room of any BMW saloon sold in the US. By contrast the Panamera appears to offer better legroom than even the 5.

I think the M5 wins hands down when strictly talking looks. But for me, Ive never liked the flatter longer "coupe" look. The rear of the 6 is terrible in MY opinion.

6gc is about 100hp less and heavier. Still fun but.... You just can't beat the M5

Wait.. Just to clarify
There's an m6 coupe (2 door)
And a 650i Gran coupe (4 door not M car)
But no M6 Gran coupe.....

So. The m6 is 2 door and same Hp as M5
The 650i GC is more comperable to M5 but 100 less HP
