Rogue Shortshifter out, UUC in!
Let me begin by stating I love this car with the 6 speed. I love rowing my own. Much more enjoyable driving experience for me. When I first took delivery, the only immediate shortcoming I could find was the rubbery shifter with super long throws. The only shortshifter on the market I could find at that time was the Rogue from IND. I had first tried one of their shifters way back when I owned a 540 6sp. and wasn't impressed then. I ended up replacing it then but as they were the only game in town now, I figured maybe they've improved their product. Preliminary reviews were positive, so I installed one. Definitely shorter throws, about 20%. An improvement, but UNBELIEVABLY notchy, especially on the 1-2 transition. I thought maybe I could learn to live with it, but after some impromptu dices with some worthy challengers last week (the damned shift knob came off the shifter while attempting a 1-2 power shift), I decided I couldn't live with it anymore. I had installed a UUC shortshifter on my 540 and e90 M3 and was extremely happy with it. Recent inquiries showed they now have an application for The Beast. Much better engineered product. I installed it today and can't believe the difference it makes! Butter smooth shifts and about 30% less throw distances than the Rogue. FOR LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE OF THE ROGUE. And get this they will give you $100 back when you send them your old shifter. So far, the only issue I am having is that it popped out of 6th gear once after hitting a big bump on the freeway. I called them and they're working on a fix. I know this sounds like I am advertising their product, but I have always given honest, non-solicited reviews for the brethren. This shifter is the truth.

UUC is located about 20 mins from my house. They have always had such a great reputation for their short shifter. Glad to hear the F10 one is as good as the rest.

I am very interested in the Shortshifter and have been contemplating for sometime to have something like this to replace the original M5 shifter. I only had one concern. So, could somebody tell if I have original shifter replaced by a shortshifter will that void the M5 warranty? I just wanted to know all the consequences before I decide on having the original replaced.

Did not experience this, but make sure you use all the parts (arm) from the stock shifter and not the Rogue. I made that mistake. Rogue's geometry is different.

I did use the stock arm...the instructions said to have the shifter with the bolt head toward the front of the car....did that and the shift knob seems to be in the top right section if the boot while in neutral.

I'd call UUC. They were very helpful during my install.
