Trade '13 for "14?
New to forum here. Purchased 2013 M5 in Oct. I had some damage to left fender. Long story short thinking about trading bc of poor work quality on repair. I paid about 98k for mine, dealer willing to trade at 82k. On 14 they are willing to discount 3500 plus 1k loyalty plus I get an additional 1500 from my insurance co deal w BMW and I believe 1500 off as BMW car club member. It translates to about 1400/mo to use the 13. Crazy or are small changes plus trade value worth it?

BTW, when I recently asked my dealer about my trade-in, they quoted me 80K (after bargaining) for '13 M5 executive pkg, B&O, full leather, 20 in wheels. |

New car vs car that has damage--- if you dont do it you will always stare at the poor repair work.
Id rather be negative in a car that makes me happier.

ON a side note: I just ordered a new 2014 F13 M6. I brought one home last night and drove it (a coupe), my 2013 F12 convertible and my 2013 F10 M5 individually down a fast twisty road. The 2014 F13 had MUCH better steering. Felt quite a bit more connected to the road. I had first driven the M5 immediately after driving the 2014 M6 and I noticed it markedly right away and thought it might be just that it was the M5. Then I drove the 2013 M6 and it was very similar, although slightly less. It is worth it just for the steering in my opinion. Also, if you do not have the new iDrive display in your M5 (mine does as it was a very late 2012 build-bought it in January 2013) then you will love that as well. No question-do it. Did I mention the LED headlights?-lol! They look sick! |

Good work. I was quoted 76K and I have fairly low mileage but lack the B&O which he said would only make a slight difference. |

The only reason I'm considering the LCI is for the steering changes. Apparently, they are true and quantifiable improvement. Otherwise, I would keep my current M5. Ahhhhh.....first world problems |

Is your current car leased and the new one a lease as well? $1400 seems like a pretty reasonable payment with all of the negative equity you would have to roll over.

No, I purchased current and plan to purchase again. I just took amount I paid, minus trade in value, divided by number of months of ownership and came up with that number as a rough estimate. I am getting about 15-16K less in trade than what I paid for the car. I will have owned about 11 months at time of trade.

Ok, now I understand, you are just calculating the depreciation cost, not the cost of capital etc. Personally I would just find the best autobody shop in the area and get it fixed. The LCI changes are not that significant and you are going to take the hit again driving the '14 off the lot. Your real depreciation schedule looks like $10K/month 1 and about $3-400/month after that.

Maybe there will be M5 xDrive in 2015 to push further sales before the release of next 5 series/M5. Seeing competition and BMW's willingness to keep up in all segments, I am certain that next generation M5 will have an xDrive option.
