M5 Time Has Passed

Launch customer picked of the M5 is Germany, and after three years the car is just too heavy for me. Part of the problem the GT3 has moved my joy of the M5 to a lower weight car. The M4 will be a DD for me, and I wanted a convertable and the M6 is just too big. Never thought I would like the M4, but I love the convertable look!

Not a huge fan of the F8x design, but the MG/SO combination on the convertible gets me every time. Really stunning.

Enjoy in good health, wear sunscreen. ;-)

I am a launch customer too here in Australia. Was at the launch in Spain and had the first Australian delivered car. I too find it too heavy. I have tracked it a few times and it is just way too heavy. The power is intoxicating though.

I find it hard to get rid of it. I am going to keep it for the time being and I have just ordered an M135 LCI with an LSD as a lighter fun car.

That M4 looks awesome though. And I like the vert.

Love to hear your impressions of it.

Will pick it up Friday. I was actually going to the service department, and I started looking and they had the build I wanted to spec. I looked at the Audi RS7, but needed to move away from 4 doors kids are in college. The GT3 is my toy, and this will be a fun DD with a convertable. Had a 650, but that was too heavy also. I really like the feel and seating position in the M4 should be a .ong time keeper I hope.

Congratulations! Just curious - if you wanted lower weight, why did you pick the vert?

Congratulation... M4 Vert is just 300 lb lighter than M5 and has "less power and heavier" than your GT3... Hopefully you enjoy your ride

Looks good. I have an M4 and was thinking of trading the M5 for a GT3 as well.

Good question wanted a convertable, and I love the lines ........it's DD. the M5 weight just started to get to me during normal driving and wanted something smaller in girth. Also it was the perfect time to trade the M5 2013 model going into 2016 values starting to plummet so I got decent equity. Good timing basically.

Yes for sure ....you can feel the difference, and I wanted a smaller car. For sure the GT3 is my race car and my alone time. The M4 is my commuter, and nice days drop the top. Not concerned about the power due to not tracking. I tracked the M5 a few time so the owner is null if you're not going to track in my opinion.

Good luck on finding a GT3, and if you can find one it a jewel of a car. There's a few 2016's out there but the mark is i10k go 30k. Used is selling at MSRP or better.

Also would love to hear your opinion on the M4 I have read a ton, but I like the trip advisor version.

Very nice. You got the M4 convertible at BMW of South Atlanta. They got it in right after I picked up my M4 coupe from Adrian at BMW of South Atlanta. I like that color combo and may get one for the wife.

I understand the weight comments. I spent a lot of time debating the M5 versus the M4 (and a few other cars outside of the BMW lineup) and I decided that the M4 was the best fit for me. Even if the price was identical, I would chose the M4 over the M5. That comment will probably get me kicked out of M5post, but that is my assessment.

I think it's a great car. I drove the coupe not too long ago and enjoyed it very much. I think I am going Porsche route again next.

Great colour combo; I've only seen M-sport 4 series conv. in UK and those with the top down look very low & wide, so no doubt M4 will look even better.

A couple of weeks ago my SA asked me if I was bored with the M5 yet, but less than 2 years in, I'm still aiming for +1 car, even though I still only like, rather than love, M5.

As to weight, could definitely be felt on the limit in E46 M3 Conv. (1730kg vs. 1570kg M3 Coupe in comparison to 1825kg M4 Conv. vs. 1572kg M4 Coupe) and if driven back to back with M3 Coupe you could feel a significant difference in torsional rigidity at all speeds, however, in isolation Conv. was great handling car. Back then, E39 M5 was also only 1795kg compared to the rather portly F10 M5 we have today.

Top down driving for more sound, greater feeling of speed, draws more attention (mostly positive), etc. 4 seats also adds ability to mess up hair of passengers sat in back...

Did you go DCT as DD, or manual to give you a different experience to GT3?

There are currently 19 used 991 GT3 in UK ranging from £135K (w. 18K miles) to £165K. There was one a while back at £185! And all from £100K list + 991 GT3 RS list at £132K. The market is absolutely nuts over here.

Back on topic; congrats on M4 & enjoy.

Edit - typo with 'King' weight, now corrected!

Thanks buddy actually I got another DCT .........my 991S that I traded for the GT3 was a stick, but over time it was a bit much in traffic. The DCT, and the paddles work for me. The M4 will not come close to the GT3 in shift speed, but it's a car for a different purpose. Can't wait to drive a convertable again for those cool night, and agree on the road noise lovely sound. The M5 is a great car, and just too isolated for me at this time. Looked at the RS7, and the rear is terrible. The M4 will not have the power of the M5, but my power kick will come from the GT3 which can put all the power down and not my DD.

GT3's for the few that are available are 10k to 30k (PTS) over MSRP which is crazy. I intend on keeping mine, and the M4 will be around for awhile because next gen will not come out for some time now.

Surprised no "King" comments LOL

Henry nice looking machine and fantastic color combo. The verts are about 300 lbs more than the F82 M cars though right? Which does tend to negate some of the weight savings over the M5. I think if I was to go vert again (had an SL63) the M4 makes sense.
