Average length of car ownership?

Just curious, how long do most of us keep our cars?

I'm keeping my M5 for a while. I don't get bored with cars very easily, I usually find a way to keep loving it. Take my Fiat Abarth Daily Driver for example. The drive to work every day just wasn't fun enough, so I tuned it to 200hp and 210tq now. The Abarth is just looney with that much power, and I'll keep it for as long as I can. Lol!

Typically 1 year. Sold the M5 8 months in. Shortest car duration I've ever had. Nothing with the car, needs just changed suddenly.

Had my E46 M3 for 10 years and well over 225,000 miles, and intend to keep my M6 for a while. The M cars really hold up.

One year for the last 6 new BMW's.
I am hoping to ( don't laugh) keep the LCI M5 for two years or more if I can.

I find that I keep them 3/4 years unless something comes out that I really want but usually in the car I have.

For example E46 M3 2002, Bluetooth and updated NAV came out in 2003 so I chopped the car in for it (also wanted SMG).

E92 M3 - got it just at the point of time the new navigation system CIC came in, might have chopped it in if I couldn't have retrofitted the combox but have had the car 4 years and will most likely hold on to it until the F3X M3 comes out.

M5 couple of things they have put into the new one that makes me want to order a new one...

Neil.

@neilmcrae

BMW now makes more feature updates annually. On the F10 for instance there have been 4 iDrive feature updates so far.

I usually keep my cars five years and we flip my wife's car more often. However, I only kept the 535i for three years and I am not sure how long I will keep this car. I like it a lot but still not sure about it for the longer term. I might want the Aston Martin. If I get an oil well I will be getting the DB9, not sure if it will be a second car or not. I only have a two car garage so that would mean one in the driveway and I hate that. I might give the M5 to my wife and take the DB9 for myself, assuming I get a well or two.
