Base Price for the 2014 BMW M5 in Japan is 14,950,000 Yen which is ($148,947 USD or 156,552 CAD based on today's exchange rate.)

Competition Package in US is around $7500 USD...

Nighthawk Edition is $30,000 more then the base car... Then again everything is more expensive in Japan on that scale it's not a lot.

Isn't it usually near the end where they start to make lots of different "special" models?

Also I'm annoyed that there is a Competition vers. if I brought an M already. Would of thought its the best already, but nope - the next moment for more money you get a tiny better one that can't be retrofitted...

This edition has all the normal options + Competition options.
I'm sure if you check all the options you'll not obtain a lower price (in Japan).
For US guys the price seems quite high, but the differences between their prices and the rest of the world are important.
The car looks great and I would like one, for sure

Do you really want special editions like this in america? The whole world already thinks americans are stupid. This "special edition" is a joke. No competition wheels, no b&o, no weight saving materials etc. how about a gts or csl version? And only 10 of them! Come on bmw... If someone tried to brag about getting this i'd probably laugh

Only kidding.

I think the issue is that American prices are low and everyone leases their cars and residual values and resale are poor in comparison. These are not good conditions to launch premium limited edition models.

LOL...I see you're point. However I'm certain that some market research would yield data to support the contrary. There are some real die hard BMW lovers out there with money and would purchase these special editions for collecting purposes or just because they want it. They will not have a problem paying a high price for it either. Just my opinion.

Um, we got the M3 CRT at just about that price point, only a few US buyers snapped the limited number up AND it wasn't just a "badge" special, there was serious bang for the buck...

what's so special about this one? You can piece this together yourself through BMW Individual in a few months. It's just a M5 ZCP with Individual Frozen Black paint and carbon brakes and with blacked out grills and LED light options.

BMW M volumes are really low in Japan and Asia, as such, to capture the customers who are dropping serious coin on these cars, they create these special editions to get them to pay a premium.

It's no different with what they did with the M3 Tiger Edition (China), M3 Edition M3 (Europe), Frozen Black Limited Edition (S. Africa & Australia), and all the various frozen and LRE M3s here in the US.

The funny part is, BMW didn't make any of those exclusive b/c for the most part, you can always piece it together yourself with BMW Individual program, including the special stitching and interior options. With money, ANYTHING can be done with BMW Individual.

I also find it interesting that they elected to use the M Peformance CF trim...which was mostly made as add-ons for non M vehicles...

Most of you don't understand that the base car in Japan starts at around $150k. Not everywhere are cars as cheap as they are in the US guys.

Beautiful. I'm not of a mind that any 5er, M or not, is quite worth just shy of $200K. But then as I'm not ready to spend $200K on any other car, it's a moot point for me. LOL.
