M5 gurus I need an explanation
After battling with Ticking rotors for a year with local helpless clueless Hendrick BMW techs who spent probably 5k on the car to get rid of it and always came back!!
Had my front almost bald treadless tires replaced by Brand new ones AND TO MY TOTAL SURPRISE TICKING IS GONE completely and can't reproduce it for about 2 weeks now!! Any logical explanations ? Don't forget I got the ticking since 5k miles

Oh, you had a 'tire tick'. Nasty little buggers. Congrats on getting rid of it/them. Just hope it didn't lay eggs.

Glad to see the noise is gone and hopefully never comes back again.
Did they perform alignment after replacing the tires? And did they repair/replace any other parts?

Soooma the reason I asked you about the alignment, was because alignment usually fixes most of the issues about robbing, but I just was curious if it also fixed the ticking noise issue since any misalignment may cause uneven surface and as far as I recall you had mentioned the ticking noise while you would turn the steering wheel all the way to one side (I guess left)

Sooma,
I had a similar experience as you, though my tires were not bald. At low speeds and while turning on some road surface types I would get a noise that could at times be described as "ticking" depending on how fast I went and it was proven by me and the tech spending some time together getting circle drunk in parking lots. We determined it to be the shoulders of the front tires where they had began to wore. It wasn't the brakes and it wasn't the bearings (had already been replaced due to a different issue). When I put the next set of Michelin's on there later that year and the problem was confirmed resolved. I posted about it somewhere around here, but there are a lot of posts about various sounds being attributed to bearings, brakes, and tires on the forum so I understand if it didn't come back in your search. It is almost as challenging as looking for the 'right' oil consumption thread. :-) Enjoy your new shoes. |

your tires

I have had a customer with a ticking tire on here Toyota, after 1/2 year of ticking we finally got the car to work on and replaced the tires, surprisingly the ticking was gone . I have attributed that to one tire with a rubber compound that was somehow messed up during molding. Never had anything like that before and after. I think that was one of those things in your case. |

What tires did you have and what did you replace them with? Do you have spacers or aftermarket springs?
