Did I miss something here? The MY16 car loses 3 pts in each segment? (M5)
If this is true BMW is assuming that if one leases a 15 M5 today and returns it in 3 years vs leasing a 16 M5 today and returns on the same day; that residual value of the 15 is 3% of MSRP higher? That just makes no sense, if true.

That is very odd indeed... surprised that if they want to move their 15's they would subvene the money factors instead. Interesting that they could end up with some residual loss for those who keep their cars; especially if they estimate the 16's to hold value at a lesser rate.

Im sure they have insurance.

So if I was in the market for a M5 (again that is, which Im not); get a 2015 !!!!

True, but I think they have different strategy...
They want to give a juicy offer to get rid of 2015 model since 2016 is coming. You know better than me they make lots of money on these cars even with 10-20k discount right?
Also their marketing/sales strategy need more sales numbers to be added to their monthly sales report

I agree 100%- and yes their margins are shocking. So instead of taking a risk on future value loss why not subvent the money factor down or even toss out some trunk money to move the 15's. I just don't think Ive ever seen residuals higher for an older model at the transition period on higher line units (AMG, M, etc).

It just caught my eye.

I think BMW is getting away from trunk money and rebates in lieu of higher residuals. They are not worried about the residual coming in too high later on (for reasons I do not know). My thought is that they are doing this because inflating the residual allows them to get the payment down without creating the illusion that they are deeply discounting to move metal. They have moved toward the same interest rate across the board and a variation in residuals as the method of placing incentives on cars. I think it makes more sense the way they are doing it now versus how they did it 10 years ago (big trunk money and really low rates) because most people lease as opposed to purchase their BMW's. The new way hurts the finance crowd and promotes leasing.

i agree with this. i am new to this leasing options as i have never considered one before but from what i read the higher the residual value the better the lease numbers per month. i think this is what bmw is shooting for. for buyers like me, this is a win whether its an 15 or 16 model.
