Parking Garage Damage -- Life as usual in the big city

Even though I take just about every precaution to protect my car from damage in my monthly garage rental (full body armor for the front/rear bumpers, and body armor for my side doors, huge tipping at Christmas, the parking garage attendants still found a way to damage the side of my front bumper, front wheel well, and front wheel. I have garaged my cars in the City for over 30 years, and unfortunately, it is losing battle to protect your car from some damage. At least the garage manager owned up to the damage, and reported it to me. My car is now off to get repaired.

I would have a coronary. It must be frustrating, but appears to be one of the things you deal with when living in NY. Given the parking circumstances there between keeping a car in a parking garage, or valet parking as a result (again) of scarce parking, it seems that you are at the mercy of others. I'm sorry to see this.

On an unrelated/related note, this is why I could never live in a highly urban environment, even here in the south. The roads are always terrible, and car parking is always a challenging issue.

Good luck!

ICON, on Park Ave, but it can happen at any garage in the City, and I have parked at many other garages, and had damage to my car.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words.

I discovered a new door ding on my M5 last week. Not as bad as your story. I think I would die if the valet did that to Mika.

Add clear bra to those scuff prone areas. Peel it and your paint will be as good as new. If there is a dent, just do a PDR service.

How bad was it? I spent $700 on the body shop to repaint the door and blend and another $120 for my detailer to properly polish the new paint. All this for a dime sized ding that broke through the paint through the primer.

Well you have to remember my car is vinyl wrapped. It doesn't look like the ding penetrated the vinyl but it's difficult to determine if the door was dented underneath. I'd have remove the vinyl to see if the door was dented. I decided to not worry about it until later. Stupid people though I tell ya!

Don't feel bad. I scratched my rt front bumper trying to avoid a curve by giving me extra room.
