Does computer enforce break-in rules (rev limits, etc.)?

I am doing ED and expect to be gentle for first few hundred miles, but then planned on ramping up the aggressiveness. I have read that there is a software "nanny" at work until the initial service (when it is removed). Is this true?

There are no nannies that I'm aware of. I stuck more or less to the break in rpm and top speed guidelines, but was not shy about WOT up to 4500-5500 rpm and saw one rev limiter event.
I did not detect any performance increase after the break-in service.

Have fun!

Protocol may be different depending on your dealer. There was definitely a rev limiter on mine during break-in that prevented over revving. Ask your dealer

For clarity, my rev limiter was set just above redline. (Revs build fast in first...)
This was on a European Delivery, so my dealer had not seen the car.

My car had no rev limiter during break in.

Thanks for your responses. As with the E60, some early owners are reporting a performance boost following initial service, but I suspect it is just placebo/heavier right foot.

If I'm not mistaking though, the e60 M5 had its 500HP (via power button) enabled after the first service at around 1200 miles. So the owners may be going from 400 to 500hp if they always drove with the power button on.

Launch controlled gets enabled during the break in service.
Everything else is up to the responsibility of the owner...

Nope. Power button was active right away in mine.
