When you drive your wife's Mercedes GL and the kids rat you out for causing the ABS to kick in on your favorite backroad switchbacks.... The M5 takes that corner without so much as a tire squeal.. hmm

When your 2 month old, $100k sedan has a check engine light and you're grinning ear to ear (ok, that was last year.)

After 3 years and 4 months of ownership, I've learned that you know you drive an F10 M5 (in the Northeast United States) when every car on the highway doesn't care if your BMW sedan has quad exhaust tips and 560hp, they still cut you off, throw things at your car, try to race you in their 2015 Lexus IS350, and treat you like you are driving a Honda Accord.

yep...ditto (this is my I drove VW's in DC...they were cheap enough that I did not care that the car got trashed daily). I have been tempted to move back to DC. I miss the culture and the city. I don't miss the stuff you just described and feeling like my daily commute is the functional equivalent of combat warfare. So far, the negatives outweigh the positives for a move back to DC. I might head out to Southern California next to see what all the rage is about out there. I ll be interested to see where you go next.

You're in 2nd gear at 3500rpm on a cold wet road, you floor the throttle and the wheels spin up instantly whilst the diff holds the car at a lovely 5 degree angle as you chuckle like a child and grab third.

You know you drive an F10 M5 when:

1. After 2 years of ownership you look back at the car and smile every time you park and walk away.

2. Don't mind filling the beast up every 6 days because of spirited driving.

3. Every time I see an F10 parked on the street I always go over and check it out like the first time I saw one in person at the Seviila Spain F10 M5 launch.

4. You wake up in the middle of the night and think, this car is so great and wonderful, how is BMW ever going to top it.

I agree, particularly with the getting cut off part and otherwise bad driving around me-part. That said, I'm trying to determine how much my defensive driving style in the car contributes to this... I keep a good following distance, etc, which tends to invite idiots in crap vehicles into the space in front of me. My daily driver is a 2015 F-250, and I tend to have fewer issues like this...

NM. You answered my question. Knowing your driving habits, I am not at all surprised.
