LCI 5-Series M-Sport to have ///M badge on front fenders. UPDATE with facebook App
Check out the picture on page 17 on the pricelist (preisliste) that you can download here:
http://www.bmw.de/de/neufahrzeuge/5e...limousine.html Seems like there is a ///M badge on the front fender. And in fact on the following page it's listed as a standard feature on all M-Sport models: Quote:
Updated with Facebook app to configure the LCI. Also shows the ///M badge on M-sport models. https://www.facebook.com/BMW/app_135659626612512 Last edited by Boss330; 06-11-2013 at 12:03 PM.. |

When will they stop diluting the brand? M might be the most powerful letter in the world, but it's also the most overused.
At least they didn't stick it on the boot.

all car companies are doing this including with audi's S-type.
I had a volvo R back in the day and now they are all R-types. i think if you just have different wheel options now you get a badge.

Really? If you buy a 550 M Sport thinking its an M5, you deserve to get hosed.

I agree that they have really diluted the M brand. The iconic ///M is now on the non-M "M-Performance" models in Europe. It is also on the new X5 M-Sport key fob (as well as that model's front fenders). I'm sure we'll now see it on the fenders and fobs of all M-Performance and M-Sport models.

Agree, def doesnt bother me at all. M division makes parts, those parts end up on other cars, if they want a badge so be it. They still wont have the most important part unless they shell out another $30k.

BMW made an Mtechnic badge which sat on the molding of a e36 3 series they put out with M3 aerodynamics. Didn't bother me then, doesn't bother me now.
What bothers me is massive weight they keep adding to these cars and the lack of visceral feel and introduction of too much techno gadgetry to replace real inputs.

Aside for M owners knowing the difference, everyone else thinks it's nothing special anymore. A friend my mine, after seeing my car, mentioned he knows someone else with the same car. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes, it has the same kind of bumpers and wheels and has M badges on it. I asked when his friend purchased it and he said March of last year. I told him it's impossible that he has an M5 as I received one of the first shipments in the US, which was in mid August. Granted the friend doesn't know much about cars, it's a testament to just how easily the public perceives an M as just every other BMW.

Part of the allure of an M, aside from its driving characteristics, was the exclusivity and the tendency to make people wonder what kind of BMW is that? Nowadays, not so. Instead, continual bastardization of the M brand. AMG is guilty as well. Time for a P car?

^^^Agreed!
This is just sad.. Do customers really want this? I can understand if you want the bumpers, wheels etc, because I think it makes the cars look better. But who would want the ///M badges?? |
