Good compliment car for M5. 997/991/m4?
Looking to replace our other car with something a little different from the M5 with some fun factor. Needs 4 seats, but want a coupe. I see a lot of forum members also have Porsches, but most seem like they are turbos.
Anyone here have a 997.2 or 991 non-turbo? Just curious if they feel too slow or is the driving experience so different you look forward to driving both. Turbo 997 and 991 is more than I want to spend right now. My budget is in the pre-owned 997.2 GTS or 991 S range. Or even an M4, but I think I want a non-BMW. I've driven all of them, but curious from longer term owners. I've been very excited before on test drives that led to an impulse buy only to have some buyer's remorse after living with the car for a while. |

You don't buy a non turbo Porsche at all the rest are pointless !! Esp coming from a m5
Unless a gt2/3 model is what your budget is then no turbo is fine The 997.1 is a great platform and better buy then .2 turbo and you can get a lot of power from them and around 700whp its a bad motherfucker ! |

I came from an '13 M5 to a '14 M6 to a 991C2S. The driving experience is definitely different. My M6 had KW and BMS and Eisennman Sport mod and my 991C2S have OEM options PSE and dynamic suspension etc.
http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1097320 The 991C2S IMO feels more rewarding while driving compares to the Ms. Yes it is slower, but you don't really feels it until you go over 90MPH. However, it feels faster because you are driving a sport car versus a Sport GT or Sport Luxury. 991TTS definitely feel way faster.

Disagree with this post entirely and, infact, having a NA car like C2S (obv a Gt3 if you can afford it) is a great complement to an M5. |

I'd say any 991 911 would be a good complement. They are different cars and satisfy different itches. Just remember that 2 of the seats are really small.

Well my dad has a 991 Turbo S and well there actually non-existent. Dad actually uses them as storage space because literally no one but a 3 year old kids fits back there lmao.

I might consider a manual tranny as well. I know the PDK is great, but a manual might keep me more engaged. |

My opinion, I would not get a turbo Porsche considering you have a turbo M5. The 991S is a kick ass car due to the NA motor sounds great, but Porsche's are meant to be driven in the high RPM range. You will miss the torque of the M5, but the M5 is a heavy beast. Again your point to a 2nd car, and that was mine too but I actually drove the Porsche more than the M5. Upgraded the 991S to a GT3, and now I never drive the M5 except when going out with friend and I need the back seat. Personally I find the M5 and 911 a great compliment. I'm not to enchanted with turbo cars so I have a year left on the M5 warantee I was one of the launch customers that did ED 10/2012. Only 11k miles may keep it pending garage space, but it may just take up space. Drive the 991S, but you have to drive it hard in the range. A test drive is not enough to understand the uniqueness of a Porsche my opinion. It took me about a month to really love the car, and hence went and upgraded to a GT3 which is the best car I have driven and a keeper. |

I find my Jaguar F Type R Coupe is much more fun than the 991S which I also considered. It's faster, more engaging, more theatrical, plus with the 2 seat cabin it feels more special to me. The Jag really captures the essence of the sports car.
You should really do yourself a favor and test drive the F Type R Coupe and the 991S back to back. Oh and don't worry about the lack of rear seats. The whole point of having a sports car as a second car is that you always have the sedan for passengers.

However I think it is a woman friendly car. There seem to be a lot of women owners on the Jag forum and all of them love the car. It's easy to get in and out of even in a dress, the steering is a little more direct than the M5, but is equally well assisted and hydraulic. The pedal spacing is woman friendly. And it has the perfect spot to store a small handbag! Also the 2016 model which is out in a couple of weeks has AWD which will make it super easy to handle all that horsepower.

The M5 and the 991 are are such different cars. I have both cars, and drive the M5 when I have family with me. The M5 is a lot more "luxurious". I also have a 2013 Jaguar XKR and a 2013 Mercedes SL 550. The Jaguar XKR and the M5 are very similar in driving experience. They both have raw power but are very refined.

The most cost effective way of doing this is to snap up a lightly used E92 M3. It's got way enough power and torque and a sound track to die for. The steering is pretty sweet and handles well. I am planning to buy another later this year. I miss the engine note big time!

I test drove both and choose the C2S lol. Even though it cost 15K more and less feature.

I'd never buy a turbo 911 over the NA 911. NA engines, especially in a car like a Porsche, are a lot more engaging than FI engines, especially when mated to a manual transmission. You have to work the engine to get the most out of it. I'd buy a 997
C2S and call it a day. |
