is the opticoat pro worth it for an extra hundred dollars? or just the standard opti coat
the detailing service says there is a five year warranty with it |

I believe pro used to be a thicker version that could be sprayed on and had a different set time. I have seen many a post talking about how its better (by people who have bought it), but have seen no comparison or proof on any car or detailing blog.
The current version that is out is opti-coat 2.0. I have it on my 3 series, and after watching the guy put it on, I will be putting it on myself on my M5 (im actually debating taking it and putting it on in the Welt parking garage...) Here's a good source or two to see how to put in on and read reviews: http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/...ion-guide.html http://www.autogeek.net/optimum-opti-coat.html just remember its thicker than other similar products like CQuartz, and it has almost a tacky feel to it, especially for the first couple weeks. Im a big optimum products fan, and I top mine with their optimum spray wax or optimum quick detailer...

I guess it depends how particular you are with your vehicle, if you intend to apply the (permanent) coating yourself. If the vehicle is not properly washed/decontaminated/polished to remove all previous tar/fallout/washed-induced swirls then all you're doing is locking all those defects under the coating, for everyone to see.
The vehicle should be properly detailed before applying any kind of coating. Most people don't realize how good their car can look after being cleaned by a professional, coming straight off the showroom floor is not the best a vehicle can look, I promise. -Kody- |

It works great for a week and then... Well stops doing it's job. My installer is getting a new batch from Opti to see of it's a bad bottle. It may also be my glass foam clearer that is taking it off. I am going to try to not clean the glass for a while and see what happens after it's reapplied.

don't know. It rained the day after he applied it to the windshield. I did not need to use the wipers at all above 50mph. Now rain just sticks like it did before and i have to use the wipers even at 70mph. I have not really compared it to the other windows .

I thought there was something in particular people used specifically to make Opti really shine. Was it SONAX?

Sonax Polymer Net Shield is what you're thinking and yes - I've read that too. I even have some but was waiting for Winter to get the frick outta here before I applied it over the Opti.

patrick23 I have I bottle but I have not tried it on the Opti yet. I think @stealth has used on his old car. Maybe he will chime in.
Lots of good reviews on the Net Shield.

Yea I think Stealth mentioned that one - I went ahead and ordered some Optimum Shine and quick detailer last night, see how that works.

On a similar note, I have become a much bigger fan of CQuartz Finest and Modesta coatings. Next time to come my way I will advise one of those two coatings. I think you will be in LOVE in Modesta BC-05 on your paint(not the current m5 paint of course ). |

I do agree with you on CQuartz Finest and Modesta though. I think that's why I was never as impressed with Opticoat because I had 4 coats of CQuartz on my 550i.
