Engine won't stay on
Happened just 40 mins ago in the packing lot. Back out from the packing space, then slowly moving forward, then engine stopped, and warning message came out: transmission problem, "P" parking is not engaged. Tried to press the Start button 7 or 8 times, every time the engine start, then stay on for 2-3 seconds, then just stopped again. Also got a error message: Auto start/Stop failed.
Had my car towed to the dealer. Anyone else have the same problem? Last edited by dingding; 12-14-2012 at 01:04 PM.. |

Sorry to hear that Ding. Hopefully, it is not serious. What really sucks is that we spend all this money on these cars, only to have problems from the gate.

Hey Dingding...
Sorry to hear you are having a "start" issue. I had the same a few months ago. I posted on the forum about it... so search my postings. To repeat though... to save ya the read... I started the car, then it cut off. Gave me the start/stop warning. Rinse. Repeat... a good few times. Finally started after I left it for 2 / 3 mins. Took it to service centre... they kept it a day... but could not fix. It is supposed to be a know issue... and there was a patch available in November (which has passed, but no one has contacted me about it). MPower team in Germany were taking all the details of cars that had this issue... and as I said, they were working on a patch. I never had it happen again. I was originally told it was a fuel pump issue. Then something to do with cold start. Not sure... all I know is it was a software issue. Let us know if you get any joy in regards to it being software vs hardware. I will call my BMW team tomorrow and ask about the software patch. If I get any info, I will re-post. g8crasher |

Ah... good to hear the info helped Niko1414 !
When it first happened to me, it reminded me of my old RX7 and a carbie issue... too much fuel or something. Sitting and waiting worked then ! So why not now. LOL even though it turned out to be software. So maybe it was the full shut down / restart that worked, as it resets the onboard computer. No idea. I will call the service centre today and see if they have any further update. g8crasher |

Have you guys done the software update on cold start/stop that I mentioned above? If not it is only a matter of time until it happens. I used to have the car struggling, giving emission and drivetrain error every morning. I wonder if that is the causr. Your dealership must check all updates and campaigns that apply to you and apply them for free.
Unless this is a new issue... |
