2024 BMW X7 M60  [10.00]
+87bhp / +70 ft-lbs

Just got this email from Turner Motorsports. Looks like they are getting into the game with a piggy back tune as well.

Quote:
This Performance Module is a direct plug in to the existing engine harness for a factory appearance and fitment and an instant 87hp gain @ 6650 RPM and 70ft-lbs of torque at 6500 RPM. These are simply amazing gains! It installs in approximately one hour and is completely reversible which makes this the easiest and most effective power upgrade you will ever make on this car. If you're looking for a substantial bump in power output, with minimal downtime for installation, full serviceability, and can be reverted back to stock then the Turner power upgrade is unbeatable!

Turner's M5/M6 upgrade solution is a tuning module that plugs in ahead of the engine computer on the wiring harness. It's not the run-of-the-mill 'piggy-back' style upgrades you find for less. Inside our module is a sophisticated control unit that is designed to complement and work with the factory ECUs. The maps and algorithms within the control unit have been optimized for the S63TU engine, sending revised fuel and ignition parameters to the stock ECUs to control boost depending on load, engine speed, and other factors. Our control unit integrates seamlessly to extract more power and torque without faults and errors - just smooth power and torque. The harness has factory-style weather-proof plugs to connect in-line with each boost pressure sensor and the camshaft position sensor on the engine.

All of the factory safeguards remain in place, including overload protection and warm-up protocols to preserve longevity and factory drive-ability. One of the key advantages of this type of system is that it is unaffected by factory BMW updates and service. If BMW updates the computer software to fix any small bugs or issues, the Turner performance upgrade is not lost or overwritten. This is key on new models because BMW is constantly releasing small software updates. All of the factory diagnostics and service access is retained. A valet connector is included and installs in minutes to bypass the performance module and revert the car to factory settings. This upgrade was developed, tested, and dyno proven for all 2012, 2013, 2014, and newer BMWs with the S63TU engine.

Why is this so much more than BMS?

How can BMS produce/sell the same thing for a fraction of the price?

Are there any material differences between the BMS, Turner and Dinan piggy-back tunes?

Dinan has an additional sensor/cord and a "ecu" to process the data to adjust the inputs as needed compared to BMS.

As everyone has said w/ Dinan you are paying for the name, r&d budget, EPA certs, and peace of mind with a warranty.

BMS adjust the boost similar to Dinan at a much lower cost. BMS is the best $vs power add on for the m5 and has proven reliable by many board members.

Don't have a clue about the Turner.

The Turner is the exact same setup as Dinan but for less money . It hooks up to the ECU harness just like the Dinan piggyback and has control over fueling and timing . It also seems to make more power than the Dinan stage 1 .

"proven reliable" is a strong phrase.

In terms of a failure rate for the BMS we know neither the numerator nor the denominator. We also don't know the source (in most cases) or quality of the information.

It's too bad they charge so much for a little software work. I would think 800-1000 is reasonable.
