All those M5 guys will probably stay at home now, instead of tracking their cars like they used to. All because of the wheels.

What will upset me is not being able to "upgrade" my 13 with some of these components. BMW needs to make the package components available in the M catalog for us early buyers.
+1

Offering an a la carte option for early adopters will assuage some of the negative sentiment about this.

A lot of you guys aren't getting it and it has been said before by a few members. The M5 is only 8 months old in NORTH AMERICA!!! Every where else in the world, this car has been out for about a year and a half. And anyways, the actual F10 is 3 years old so when BMW does a facelift of a series production model, they also do it for the M series of that model even though the M series models come out at least a year after the same series model does. And like someone else said, these changes take progress and time. Even though they may seem simple programming changes to you, as a research engineer I know how long R&D takes even on really simple changes. BMW cannot afford to introduce a half assed product into the market.
So don't be pissed off, rather be glad that BMW has realized their mistake with the M5 and have fixed it. And for the current owners, enjoy your exclusivity and then upgrade to the LCI w/ comp pack in two years when the rates have gone lower.

PS. I think those comp pack wheels are hideous! They make these cars look like rice cars

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but it looks like that F10 M5 doesn't have a sunroof. It would be kind of a cool to have a Sunroof Delete as an option for those looking to drop weight

What color is the M5 in the pics? Is it Silverstone? Space Gray? Is that a new color?

The current M5 was launched around this time in 2011. So the car is actually two years old. The US did not get the car until middle of last year. So in essence the car is in time to receive additional updates.

Mine will be celebrating its 2nd Birthday in December , so it might be appropriate to assess the options.

I've got similar feelings but was not my choice given they only offered E90 Civic M3s here in the UK (comp pack was only ever for E92s here)

The M5 isn't a hardcore performance animal. It's a civilized car with lots of power but there are compromises. Most M5 buyers expect a comfy ride.

And once they started pumping engine noise thru the speakers the whole notion of some wild beast is gone. The E60 was the last of the animalistic M5's.

I don't see the big deal. My ED car finally arrived yesterday and I'm thrilled with it. The H&R's are going on this week, with the E-race exhaust. I'm sure that will solve any forthcoming envy if my neighbor wants to pull up with an LCI M5C

Seriously though, the car is likely to take a price hike for 2014, and the comp package will likely be at least $5k more if I know BMW. If you're going to spend $110k+ on this car, then I think you're nuts. To me, that's not worth it and I wouldn't order it even if given the chance.

I bought an 09 E92 M3 in october of 08...it didn't hurt my feelings that october of '10 i would have been able to get a comp package. Two years is a lot of time. They really just rushed this in my opinion, and all the suspension adjustments I have to believe is brought on by the negative response of journalists.
If you had bought your M3 in September of '10, would you have been offended? I don't see your logic there.

I'm also guessing that you could fit all the upgrades, particularly suspension and the exhaust of you wanted to for less than what BMW is asking if you sold the previous suspension and wheels. Not sure how extensive the software tweaks will be and if you reprogram the modules.

What a missed opportunity. Instead of wasting effort on an X7 Gran Coupe SAV luxury line, make fewer cars and make them better.

I appreciate that BMW is trying to improve the M5, but so much more could have been done. Include the akra exhaust, forged wheels, significant power bump, serious weight savings (CF Roof). M6 Vert competition package is laughable.

Currently most M5 buyers lease their cars so not sure what all the winning is about. The M5 is not a low production collectors supercar like an F1 or Carrera GT. You pay a premium to be the first to drive the car. If you don't like it, wait for the LCI which will come in 2-3 years. What manufacture in this age sells the exact same car with zero updates for 4+ years???

I agree many of these changes could have been there from the start but engineering cost money and the project is NEVER done. At some point you have to says pencils down and build something. IN the meant time keep developing the product and provide updates or role the new tech into the next iteration. Anyone in engineering understands this.

Buy a car and injoy it. It will not always be the latest and greatest but time stops for no one. In the mean time we are driving m cars around... life is good

On another note, can you remind us about your theory of the world being flat?

This package should be available to all first year M5 buyers as a retrofit at its MSRP.
I'll probably write BMW a letter. So much for buying first year M3/M4. It looks like you have to wait for reviews instead of trusting that BMW will come out with a great product off the bat.

That's why I don't buy first year Anything!

First of all the first model year for the M5 wasn't 2013, it was 2012, so it's a second year model.

Second, it's cool having the newest product on the block. It's not so cool having an outdated product that has been refined under the skin. I personally would rather buy first year than mid-cycle because by mid-cycle the design is outdated and there are newer things on the road.

The F10 has been out since 2010. It is an outdated design already. Waiting till 2014, just means you are buying a 4 year old chassis with the latest M equipment.

There's no way to avoid obsolesce - buy late and the design is passe. Buy early and they will make small tweaks the next year.
