This might also be an option. It does not list the M5 but lists all other F10 models. I put one of these on my X5 and was very happy with it.

I installed one of these on my M5 last Saturday. You need a different center diffuser piece and mine was delivered today! The part number for the new piece is 51128038985

Question:
Would installing this thing interfere with the automated proximity trunk/boot release? (similar to how installing the OEM Rear Carbon Diffuser interferes with the rear proximity sensor)

It did not interfere on my X5.

Infamouscrew02 installed one of these on his MSport 535 and said that with the hitch installed, it would not work but without the hitch installed, it worked fine.

http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1236225

Mine has been working intermittently since installing the hitch. I am not sure if it is interference from the wires for the trailer or that I installed the carrier wrong (I just zipped tied it to the new hitch). I will be pulling apart the bumper again in the next few weeks to troubleshoot this more.

This is very interesting..... Any idea what the max towing weight would be? Also is towing with a DCT OK?

Max towing for the F10 is 4400 lbs. Not sure how the DCT comes into play. I'm not worried as I only pull 1000lbs a few miles every week or so. I would bet that it's less stressful to the clutches to tow a small trailer than to booting it a few times per drive in a tuned car.

Yeah that's probably the max

But yeah, I reckon that anything more than 4400 lbs would be too much for the DCT.

This is also the reason why Porsche does not use their PDK on the Cayenne and instead uses a ZF torque-converter auto instead.

Here's a quote from Rennlist:

This doesn't seem to be a problem in the Macan because I reckon that the highest towing capacity won't breach on the limits of their PDK unit.

Thanks for the info. Just having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of using an M5 to haul a trailer. I DJ private events and if I could tow a small trailer that would make these jobs a lot easier (not to mention a bit more fun to get to).

Definitely going to look into getting this done

You don't want a M5 as a lugger- get one of these, its very common!

I have the electric BMW towbar in my M5 F10, as I use the M5 to tow my race bike to the track.
The towbar is great

Hey There,

Where did you order parts from? I'm unable to find it on ECS Tuning with the part numbers referenced in this thread.

Thanks in advance!

This is so cool. In other countries regular cars tow all the time, but thanks to the litigious nature of the US, we can never have the option easily.

fitting a towbar

hi guys i have a BMW f10 5 series m sport and im thinking about fitting a tow bar to it and my question is, is it possible to retrofit an electric tow bar to it or isn't because of the wiring ? is there any preparation for it at least although the car didn't come with it...?
im also thinking about fitting the non electrical one (OEM) but i don't know how the harness for the plug connects cause i don't want any cuts or crimping to the car harness to be installed
