Central coast CA to Dallas TX drive

Hi! Can anyone recommend a great route with great places to stop along the way? Relocating my young family to Dallas, TX. As I'm originally from South Africa my knowledge around great places to stop over is a little limited!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Tons to see and do along the way. One possible route includes Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff AZ, Sedona AZ, Meteor Crater, Painted Desert, Sandia Peak in Albequerque NM, and more. You could spend weeks with all the American SW sites.

Richard in NC has a good suggestion. Sounds like I-40 will be your main cooridor most of the trip until you hit the TX Panhandle. I took that trip a few years ago myself and enjoyed it.

Good luck on the drive and relocation.

Welcome to Dallas!! There a couple of Saffa car fans in the DFW area.

I look forward to meeting you!

If you take I-40, the Amarillo to DFW on 287 goes through a lot of small towns, so be careful, don't speed!

If you take the I-10/I-20 route, the portion between El Paso and Midland is pretty sparse and you can really go!

Have a safe trip!

Where are you currently located? I just moved to Santa Barbara from Dallas, and have done the drive twice between SB and Dallas, as well as a ton of roads through the southwest. I'd be happy to share maps and other ideas if you're close by, shoot me a PM.

It comes down to how much time you have, and how far you'd like to go. As others have said, there is a LOT a to see between here and there if you're willing to go out of your way to see it...and it's definitely worth it, in my opinion.
