Same here. I'd love to see your Pure Metal Silver pics. I considered getting it, but was concerned about ever needing body work (e.g. after a wreck, or needing a touch-up, etc.).
As far as wheels go, I recommend getting whichever you think looks best, unless you're going to do considerable tracking (weight and strength are better on the 343). The 601 look better in person, imo (versus in pics, not necessarily vs the 343).

Don't buy replicas! You can find OEM wheels second-hand.
Check out @05Mdriver. He is a great seller who can find you OEM wheels in great condition or refinished. Don't out replicas on an Ultimate Driving Machine! Please! It deserves better.

I decided to go with 343's. I had them on my Alpine White 13. I traded it in for a 911 Turbo S, but I am coming back to M5. I was going to custom order Jet Black but when I saw pics of Pure Metal Silver, I had to do it. I will definitely post pics.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did they charge you for the Pure Metal Silver, $10,000 or more than that?
I like both the 343's and the 601's but the 343's are forged and each wheel is 5 lbs lighter than the 601's. The 601's are cast. The 601's are 1/2" wider front and rear than the 343's but they both use the same size tires. If you check the prices charged by Parts to order a 343 vs. a 601, the 343's are about $400 each higher than the 601's. It's all a matter of personal taste. I really like the 601's on the "30 Jahre M5" special edition but they're custom wheels, Jet Black with polished alloy. If I were ordering a new M5 my first choice would be Pure Metal Silver with Full Individual Nutmeg Merino leather. They charge you $5,000 for the Individual Extended Nutmeg interior plus another $1,800 to make it full leather vs. only $3,500 for Full Merino Black leather. That's assuming you ask them to make the Nutmeg full leather the same as the Black full leather and don't go nuts and ask for a full leather dash, which runs about another $3,000 or so based on what another owner posted. Please post pics when you get it. It's going to look fantastic! Last edited by Ninong; 10-10-2014 at 12:22 PM.. |

343M black vs silver? forged vs cast
Are both the 343 wheels forged? The website indicates only the black ones are forged.
and does anyone know the actual weight of 601 vs 343silver vs 343black? front and rear 20 inch? Last edited by the_pterion; 10-25-2014 at 03:30 PM.. |
