how is rear quarter panel looks? hard to judge by those 2 pics, hopefully they will be able to fix it easily!
at least the drivers rear quarter panel, rear bumper and trunk are a write off.
haven't brought it in to the shop yet.

still deciding whether to go with one of the 2 BMW certified shops or one that is on my insurance companies "preferred list"

Welcome to D.C. buddy. I hate driving there and have lost count how many times I have been hit in the D.C. metro area by moronic drivers.

well rear quarter panel is a big piece
and its not like bumper couple clips, couple screws and you can replace

from what i understand they wether have to bend it back, then sand it and paint
or they will have to cut the panel out of the body and weld new one in

that is why i have asked which way they are going to do it

Yeah, they will have to remove that whole panel back to where the seams are and spot weld or whatever they use now. I'm guessing expensive.

If the damage is not too extensive, could use metal repair & filler, at least on quarter panel, if not boot/trunk lid. This method saves having to take the car to pieces (remove rear glass, welds, etc) would be my preference on a fairly new car as it reduces the likelihood of introducing other issues.

DC ,NOVA is the worst!! Lived in OH, NC,FL,MD eastern shore and drove in a number of Middle Eastern country's. By far the most stressful driving and evil unskilled drivers I have ever experienced are here! This happened to my new 535i msport WED morning on 29 in stop and go traffic. It's hard to see but the left rear bumper is smashed and the trunk is buckled exposing the interior trunk.
