McVaughan- your inbox is full and I can not contact you.....

Hi All,

Thank you for your interest. I never imagined my side project would turn into something like this. I'm new and learning along the way about the price points and shipping logistics. I will be heading over to my machine guy's place this weekend and will go over how to make these at a cheaper cost since I've already paid for the R&D upfront. My goal will be to get these down to $125 per pair plus shipping, wherever you are located.
I'll provide an update later this weekend.

Again, thank you guys for your interest.

How do you machine foam core material without exposing the core? This looks like solid textured HDPE, especially seen on the leading edge where the texture is machined away but the material remains solid. Not that this is a bad thing.

I want to be clear that these are beautiful pieces. No disrespect intended.

skid plates

it seems someone has gotten the right stuff for the spring upgrade !
This is none of my business but, someone has struck the goose with golden eggs ! $175 shipped is a phenomenal deal for something STILL MADE IN THE US continent. Correctly if I'm wrong but how many things we can buy that are not made in Asia ( somewhere ) that actually work...

I personally love the idea of those skid plates

That brings me to a point... how many items for our beloved M5 will cost that little and will do so much in return ?

Just my couple of cents

I purchased one of the extra sets of Skid Plates from ThisFlyGuy and wanted to share my feedback:

Install was extremely simple with no issues. The shape of the plates blends nicely and seated perfectly on my car. There were comments about the thickness but IMO I would rather have a little extra material for that unfortunate scrape moment and be able to sand down the blemish for the next mistake. Aesthetics wise they are visible if you are looking for them but to the casual observer they will go unnoticed and for the anomaly that spots the plates they'd think OEM. For reference, I'm the guy that cleans his windshield twice per day; detail sprays the entire vehicle and wipes downs the wheels every evening. So yes, I would have an issue if they detracted from the look of the car. Someone could probably have them painted if the 3/8” black strip bothered them. If anyone questions, I have full frontal clear bra on my vehicle and the plates contact point doesn't touch the material.

There might be room for improvement but at this point I can't find it.

ThisFlyGuy...for a first run product you nailed it

I just wanted to show a custom skid plate project I worked on for my car.

These are made exactly with the same material and same way as those Ferrari and Lamborghini skid plates. These are cut from polyethylene plastic, which have good impact and abrasion resistance.

I worked with a mechanical engineer to get these drawn up in CAD and cut from a CNC machine. I made these to incorporate OEM bolts so any DIY'er can put these on within minutes.

These will be attached with 3m double sided tape along the front edge along with the 3 oem bolts below the splitter. These have a 1/16 inch wiggle room since your bumper might be a tad off than mine. *** Holes look big, but they are cut to fit the oem washers that are locked on the bolts ***

I figure this is a nice little addition to preventing unwanted and unavoidable scrapes.

Let me know what you think
BTW: I have two sets of these for sale if anyone is interested and can make more anytime.
I'm in it, please PM me some pricing...

Are they readily available...and do they bolt into holes that already exist? Hardware included?

Yes available.
They have holes for the 3 OEM bolts/washers already attached under your bumper. No hardware included.

Sarcastically: "meh, it would need to be more expensive to truly be quality...." or at least that is what the typical "M" tax for other things implies. :-)

Seriously though: congrats on being brave enough to offer a fairly priced product that is getting a lot of attention. You might just have a retirement plan there if you expand it for other models.

Great idea. Props. I'm going to wait for the rumored competition version that will be $495 but not any noticeably better.
