BMW F10 M5 Breaks World Drift Record with 51 Mile Drift
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com And an email from Johan (driver) about the experience: Quote:
Here are some photos from the Drift Record Attempt this past Saturday at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC [previous details]. The driver was Performance Center Instructor Johan Schwartz in a bone stock F10 M5. They only changed the engine oil. The old record was 41 miles or 251 laps on the skid pad. The new record is now 51 miles and it took 322 laps on the skid pad to get the record. The pics start with a parade lap for the BMW photogs and then some shots during the record attempt. The last shots are a smoky celebration burn out after the record was broken. Enjoy. Thanks. PalBay Quote:

51 miles!?!?
I'd love to know how long it took to cover that much track while drifting. And a pic of the tires after the drift run please. Also, does anyone know or have any guesses why they switched to a different engine oil for this and what they might have used? I presume when they say "changed the engine oil" they mean more than just putting fresh OEM oil in, since that would still count as completely bone stock. In any case, major props to the driver!

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, this is why I will never own any of the following cars:
- 2013 Audi S6/S7 - 2014 Audi RS7 - 2014 Merc E63 - 2014 Merc CLS63 All of these "Performance" sedans have AWD. F' THAT! I want to drift in my M5, even if it is 4,300lbs! Lol! RWD FTW!!!
