Week 28 build, when can I expect to see the m5 at my dealer?

I'm scheduled for second week of July build and was wondering if anyone knew the build time? How long does it take the factory to make an m5 and how long to reach the US by boat?

Thanks!

Not sure on build times but for transport to the US I believe it's 6-8 weeks to an Eastern Port and 8-10 weeks for a Western Port.

I was given a build week of 36 for a ED date of Sept 13 (beginning of week 37) so its not much build time.

Are you positive about this, I was under the impression that transit by ship took about 2 weeks.

These are maximum times. I've had 6wks to the west coast before.

Wow that would mean it could be as early as 4 weeks to the East Coast ports. Would love to have the car back to me early October

That's what I'm hoping for. I've saw a post from someone who was in his/her car in the US (east coast) 3.5 weeks after he dropped it off in Germany following ED.

BMW says 6 to 8 weeks, but it is frequently quicker.

However, there are a lot of steps in producing a car in, and shipping from, Germany, and delays can happen at every step. It takes just under a week to build, and then it needs to be transported up to Bremerhaven (the port). Once there, it waits its turn to get onto a ship (which can take a few days) and then come across the Atlantic which takes 10 to 14 days depending on the weather. Once in the US, the ship needs to be unloaded, and the car has to clear customs (I've heard this can take a week alone). Then it moves to BMWs VPC (Vehicle Prep Center) where they do certain things to prep the car and make it ready for shipping to your dealer. It then waits for its turn on the mode of transport to get to your dealer, and if you use a smaller dealer your car may actually have to wait until enough cars come in to fill the particular mode of transport. Then there's the transport time to get from the VPC to your dealer.

So, a lot of steps and a lot of opportunities for delays. that's why BMW hedges their bets and says 6 - 8 weeks.

How does one find out about the schedule for the build? I only know my production number.

You should have already been told to go login in on BMWUSA.com and there you can input your production number and get the latest updates on where your car is in its production and transport cycle.

If you haven't done this do it now.

I dont beleve that gives you your build week. only 6 stages of order/production. Build week has to come from dealer, right?

I wasn't able to see my build week online, but was able to get that information from my dealer.

I already have my production number logged in BMWUSA.com and it only shows "Order documented" and under "Vehicle Timeline" the comment:
------------- We are currently processing your order and will inform you once your BMW enters production.

I don't see anything about the build week.

If I am doing PCD I assume the process should go somewhat faster?

Why would PCD take longer? There is no transport time to dealer

You are correct. Given the volume of people wanting to take PC delivery, you will have to wait your turn. The Welt has dozens of delivery stalls, the PC has 3 I think. What I've heard is PC delivery takes about 2 weeks longer than dealer pick-up.

Yes, there is shipping time. It needs to be shipped from the VPC to the PC just like any other dealer. The difference is the limited number of deliveries that can be managed vs. the high demand.

Wow. Makes me wonder if its even worth it...but I want the full experience from ED to PCD so two weeks is worth it for me.
