Well, I made it back home. My new "M5" was a beautiful Chrysler Town & Country for the drive back. Quite spacious!
In any event, here are a few pics. In the light of day, it really is not as bad as I feared. The damage looks to be cosmetic. The fluid leaking appears to have been just the washer fluid, but in pitch blackness, I coulnd't tell. I just know it will be a long time before I can get the beast back because, as we know, all these 2014 LCI parts are on back order. Go figure. Well, I didn't buy winter wheels yet, so I may just hold off. As for the night vision with pedestrian and the new animal detection, I do have faith in it. I bought it specifically for the reason that I do vacation in Wisconsin and I am traveling these dark country roads. I know deer are a problem, especially at dusk and dawn. Night vision didn't save me here because the deer ran from the side with no time to react. A big red jumping deer symbol popped up on the HUD a fraction of a second before he hit (my passenger said it was a buck). Had it jumped out from the woods a bit further ahead, I might have had time to react. I don't even remember if I slammed on the brakes or the car did. It was quite smooth really--if you can call it that. Thankfully nobody was hurt, just my beast and my pride for the time being. |

That still looks expensive to me, front valance complete + bonnet and wing, headlamp and (wheel alinement minimum check).
Still nothing "unfixable".

yup but no structural damage to the car, just a case of fitting replacement bits.

Atty, if it makes you feel any better, I almost hit a Buffalo a few weeks ago while on my adventure across the US! Thank goodness he didn't want to do a rolling start race with me.

Holy cow! Actually holy buffalo! That sucker would have done some damage! In Wisconsin, wild turkeys are a big problem too (and I'm not talking about the bourbon!... Although I think brandy is a bigger problem there!)

Really sucks. That is not going to be a cheap repair. Luckily not structural but lots of panel replacement and paint work. She'll come out as good as new with a good shop though. I hit a dang raccoon last night in my 991 (no damage-mostly wheels s hit it) but there is blood and guts all down the side. |

Glad the damage was not worse and you are ok. Car will be fixed up fine. Check out the new carbon grille from Nate - not quite ready yet in LCI night vision format but should look very sharp - will match your RKP front spoiler - I have the same one on my 2014 SG LCI ZCP and will seriously consider fitting the new grille when it's available.

Lesson learned... don't hit a deer.
Well, a very preliminary estimate of the damage to my car has come in. Mind you, this does NOT include the IND custom additions, and it is using model 2013 labor guides. The body shop is in the process of disassembling each damaged piece and recording the part numbers for a more accurate estimate of price and availability, so I can only expect the figure to rise. I should have a more firm number next week. In any event, we're already at over $11,200. That's going to be one expensive deer.

Wow this sucks. Hope it all works out for you and your beautiful m5. I think the deer wanted to see 2014 m5 up close and got to close and you can see his shoot mark on your fender.
