I know what you are thinking. Asking a question like this on an M5 forum you might get a biased answer. But that is absolutely not true. You will get nothing but the truth here. Integrity comes std with BMW ownership. The answer to your question might shock you. Given the choices you have listed you should choose the mcb M5. Please feel free to post here in the future for more unbiased decision making help.

I heard of a few people that got the gtr and shortly after got rid of it. If i remember correctly the build quality wasn't where a $100k car's should be. GL, i would test drive the crap out of both of them.

Do you watch Top Gear UK?
Last weeks show the "star in the reasonably priced" was a former GTr owner and her complaints were: - the car wasn't loud enough - you feel like the car has no soul So it really depends what your looking for. From what I hear the GTr is an amazing car that is technically perfect and fast. But what I hear of the M5 is it is a car that is a lion when it needs to leap and calm as cat when you need it to be. Plus it has SOUL. I can't wait till the day I can get an M5. Or hope that one day the M550d will come to Canada. Just my 2cents. |

I thought Chris Harris' review was fair: Also, here's a random and rather accurate web comment from a GTR owner: "i may be a gtr guy but i have to admit, you cannot compare a GTR to an M5, the GTR doesnt have the build quality, the luxuries or the finish that the M5 does, in fact, compared to the current M5, the GTR can seem a little vulgar, not to metion the M5 is quite a bit heavier due to the fact that it's larger and unlike the GTR, the M5 doesnt have a super-grippy AWD system. The GTR is designed to be a no-nonsense budget supercar, the M5 however is designed to be a businessman's super-saloon."

I've had a 2012 gtr and traded it in for my 2013 M5. The gtr was a great car , and I enjoyed it . But it never felt like a 100k car and I was always worried about resale value once out of warranty. When the gtr was driven as it was designed it was lots of fun. But as a daily driver or multi use car not so fun. The suspension is very stiff and not much room in the back seat ,if you have kids. Next problem or not depending on your demeanor . Every one you pull next to wants to either race or has the urge to ask you how much you paid for that, very annoying.
The M5 is hardly recognized by people around you. Unless they are car people then you'll get the thumbs up. This car can be driven just as hard as the gtr or just as you would with a 5 series. Other thing that concern me about the gtr was Nissan looking for any reason to void the warranty . (black box recorder in the car to inform them when and where your car broke) supposably not covered if at a track Although I miss my gtr now and then, that feeling goes away once I set the M5 in sport plus mode I'm good to go ! Ps I've tracked both cars at the drag strip 11.0 for the gtr and 11.7 for m5 both cars were completely stock. Not such a big trade off since you get two cars with the BMW! Race car and cruiser with the touch of a little button called M ! |

I had a 2009 GTR and a 2013 M5. The GTR will be the fastest car you will ever own period. I'm not talking about running at an airfield at top of 5 and 6th. I"m talking about real world fast. Would I drive it every day. No way. The ride was brutal. I'm not sure if the current models are much comfier. The M5 is a much more useable car. Is it just as fun? Nope. Would I take it to the track? Nope. Is it fun going fast, not really. BUT.... you would use it way more just because it's a very comfortable luxury sedan that can be insanely fast though you won't feel it.

I have done multiple races from a roll 60 km/h to 300 km/h with a 2012 GTR (same as 2013), both cars stock, and both cars were equal even at 300 km/h. M5 walks away from 2009 GTR (also had many races), but gets annihilated from a standstill with no chance to catch up.

I also own an S2000 and e92 M3, and I prefer the driving experience that both of those cars offer than the GTR. And going back to the F10 M5 as mentioned before, it is a complete car and what I call luxury jetliner. FYI - http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthr...9#post13387919

looks like you already have enough European fast cars. Go for the GTR if this would be your daily drive, at least you can still drive this in our Toronto streets during winter months.

I had a 2010 GTR SS that just traded in for an AW f10 M5. They are completely different cars. If you want luxury, class and speed cruising on high ways you buy the M5. If you want super fast acceleration from a stop and super handling, then get the GTR. With the GTR you will sacrifice some comfort and luxury. Also Nissan dealers are certainly no BMW dealers, but not a big factor. One important factor between the 2 cars is depreciation. GTR keeps value much better than M5 thanks to BMW mass producing these cars

^ what he said, I had a 2010 fully bolted up meth and all. Full straight piped. I loved it but the m5 for me is a way better car. I love four doors and the feel of the m5. I feel like the m5 is a true drivers car. But the GTR was way faster and handled better threw side roads. I will have another GTR down the road. Also the interior in the m5 feels like it's a $100,000 the Nissan makes some crazy noises.

I would never own a GTR, even if it did 0-60 in 1 second. It is ugly and cheap feeling/looking. No sophistication at all.
If you track a car then maybe buy something purely for performance but only drive it at the track. i.e. corvettes etc I care about (all equal): Design, quality, performance, luxury, bang for buck, what it conveys to the world about me, utility and do I flat out like driving it. M5 by a mile on all those except pure performance. I do all the above everyday, I don't drag race 18 year old's from the stoplight 5 times a day as in the movie "Better Off Dead" tell you what, save a ton of cash and buy a Subaru WRX and tune the brown shit out of it! Now you have 50k to put down on an M5! |

I'm not gonna spend 100k and at the end of the day it's still a glorified Nissan. Like some have said, it's a big boat. Cheesy interior. Boring to drive. M5 all the way!
