NEW Clutch installed *PIC HEAVY*

Hi Guys,

After multiple track days and pushing over 680hp/680tq my clutch was TOAST! The clutch started to clunk going into reverse and 1st. The clutch couldn't hold the power I was making and started to slip in every single gear. Even after changing the tune back to stock the clutch was still slipping.

I found South Side Performance, owned by Kris, who sold upgraded clutch packages. Andym3100k posted saying he upgraded his clutch too, so I made the call and talked to Kris for an hour trying to decide what to do. We ended up upgrading everything he had for the transmission. We changed the output baskets to billet baskets, changed out the bearings in the pump to bronze bearings, changed out the old filter to a steel filter, and upgraded the clutch that can hold more than 900 ft/lbs of torque!

After 1.5 days of taking out the transmission and putting it back in, the car runs as it should. No more clunking and smooth as butter going into gears. I'm currently breaking in the clutch before tracking it at Auto Club in Fontana for Bimmerfest.

I want to thank Kris @ SSP for helping me through out this whole process. He answered my calls and gave me A LOT of support. Awesome company and a great person to deal with!

If anyone has questions feel free to contact me anytime.

*UPDATE* I broke in the clutch 500 miles Wednesday night. I was able to get on it and WOW the power is holding and it's SOLID! I'm excited to go to the track this saturday! Will post updates as the days go by.

1/3/5/7 Clutch BURNT to a crisp LOL

2/4/6 Clutch not as bad as the odd gears

NEW CLUTCH w/ Billet Baskets

New pump with Bronze Bearings

New Billet Baskets/Clutch/Lifetime Filter

The 2/4/6 clutch looks so good, you say it was still slipping in those gears also? Because the small clutch looked so good, I wonder if you destroyed the 1/3/5/7 clutch mainly with 1st gear, and then of course it's downhill from there for that clutch pack.

Could you provide a part list and price breakout for each component?
Also, what could we expect for total labor hours to install everything?
What is the break in procedure and time frame?
Thanks!

How many miles on your car before you needed to replace the clutch?

I think the thing to remember is this is just the clutch that's now capable of 900lbs of torque. Thankfully we have SSP doing tons of R&D but I think if we're seeing this at 680 if its really a true 680 along with the baskets, I think its safe to see the gears will have a limit within another 100-200whp. But that's just my speculation, based on what I see with the GTR, the good thing though is the DCT from BMW appears to be much beefier and more capable of handling the stress of 150+wtrq over stock.

Do you know what kind of fluid Kris recommended thats 500 bucks... I paid 680 for dodson green which has been amazing on my shep trans, so if its 500 bucks for stock transfluid that really seems like a lot.

Damn Joe, that is nuts! Love it man!

Yeah I'm pushing over 600tq for over a year now also, but I don't drive my car hard at all. Would you describe the clutch going bad as a rough engagement when switching into 1st gear from a dead stop or switching into reverse as you mentioned? I have had a couple of times when the transmission seemed a little rough when engaging 1st gear and reverse, but it rarely happens. I rarely rarely get an opportunity to drive my car hard any more and most of the time I am just puttering around town at 25 mph. I wish I got to drive my car as hard you do these days. These cars are just so much fun when you can really open them up.

Anyways, hope everything is going well at Trinity and good tidings to your family and Nerweezy.

I would say yes on the rough engagement and the clutch will slip if you floor it in 6th or any other gear at that when at like 2-3k rpm. When you are ready let me know. We can get the part at least for you. You need a shop that has an autologic to relearn the clutch.

Oh hmm, yeah I'm not getting any slippage in 6th gear. For me it just feels as if my DCT is the old SMG from the E60 M5 when the clutch engages in 1st gear and reverse on rare occasions. So maybe I'm not that bad yet. I think if I ever upgrade to a flash tune then I'll do everything you did to your DCT. Thanks for the info dude. Have fun at Bimmerfest tomorrow! Post some pix up on Instagram too!

The clutch performed FLAWLESS! No over heating or slippage. I did 4 session 25mins each and was ALWAYS on it. I'm very impressed!
