2012 or 2013 M5?

I'm currently first on the list at my dealer to order the F10 M5. I was first on the list when I got my 2006 M5 in October of 2005 that came out of September production. I enjoyed the heck out of driving one of the first cars in Ohio for 12 months before they started producing the 2007 M5.

If BMW is going to release the F10 M5 in the US in March of 2012, and their factory shuts down in August, this would be about a 6-month run. But in this case, if BMW holds true to form, this would mean that anyone buying a 2012 M5 would only at most have 6 months before their car was a year old model.

I'm all for getting the first car and enjoying the driving while everyone else is waiting for the price to go down, but I'm not sure I like the idea of getting a car that is only looking at a 6 month production run. I'm tempted to wait for the 2013's not only because the price and resale will be better, but because they will undoubtedly have sorted out some of the production issues.

What are the thoughts out there?

I have also ordered an f10 m5 and I just want the first one out there. Looking at jan 20 2012 for delivery!! I don't see the point in waiting. The LCI won't come out for about 2-3 years, like the E60.

I think that many of us are thinking the same thing.

Usually when BMW releases a new model in the spring, it's designated with the next model year in the US (my April 07 LCI 550 is an 08 MY). But the BMW production schedule making its way around the net indicates a short March - July MY12 US production run, with MY13s following in August or September.

It really makes no sense.

That's not how it works in London, which is why I didn't understand it :-)

That's correct. Only 3-4 months production for the 2012 M5 in the US.

Those interested can reference the F10 M5 sales and production schedule here - http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=548052

I asked the model year question when I was with BMW at Indy. I didn't get a clear answer. The closest they came was, march is the earliest possible US production date and if that slips it would most Likely be a 2013 model. I did express my dislike of it being a 2012 model and so did most others.

Now I'm hearing through some pretty reliable sources that there is a delay in the US release as well. Looks like summer 2012 for the first US deliveries. If this is the case, then I'm definitely waiting for the 2013 model build in September for October delivery just like I did in 2005.
