BMW X5 Gives Best Look Yet

Updated February 2, 2018

The G05 X5 has dropped nearly all camouflage as it moves closer to its introduction.

As we've shared before, the G05 X5 will begin production in August 2018 after the current F15 X5 ends production in July. The current 35i and 35d models will become the 40i and 40d, resulting in the following X5 models:

- sDrive40i
- xDrive40i
- xDrive40d
- xDrive40e
- xDrive50i

BMW X5 Drops Major Camouflage

Updated September 6, 2017

Here is some footage of the next gen X5 and X5 M testing on the Nurburgring!

Updated August 11, 2017

Not to be left out, the BMW X5 (G05) prototype has joined the other current BMW prototypes by being fitted with production headlights and taillights. Some prototypes have also dropped some front camouflage to reveal the outer grille shape and lower front fascia design.

The G05 X5 will begin production in August 2018 after the current F15 X5 ends production in July 2018. The current 35i and 35d models will become the 40i and 40d, resulting in the following X5 models:

- sDrive40i
- xDrive40i
- xDrive40d
- xDrive40e

BMW X5 (G05) Adds Production Lights and Drops Front Camo

Updated November 9, 2016

The previous G05 X5 models spied were early chassis testing mules which were helpful only to signal that the next gen X5 was already in testing and due within the next couple of years. Now that the mules have moved from their frankenstein mashup stage, we can finally make out actual production styling, size and proportions.

The biggest change so far appears to the the kidney grilles which have now been stretched vertically and slant forward aggressively. Also visible now are the air intakes in the front bumper, new rear end, and exhaust tips. The head and tail lights remain fake, but the rest of the prototype shows the all new BMW X5.

Expect the G05 X5 to be revealed sometime later next year. Follow our X5 (G05) coverage @ http://www.bimmerpost.com/x5/g05/

January 19, 2016:
The current F15 X5 isn't exactly long in the tooth, but the next generation BMW X5 (G05) is already undergoing testing, much earlier than usual during the current model's life cycle.

What is interesting is that the rumors point to NO LCI refresh for the current F15 X5 with a direct move to the next G05 chassis instead.

Given the fact that Audi Q7 has great success with the new model (at least in Europe) , Porsche will have a new generation soon, I guess it's the time to start testing a new model that will be available in 1,5 - 2 years

This shows BMW's commitment to quality and testing. The F15 is just out for a couple years, and they are testing the next platform.

Less boxy than the current one, that's good news. I might consider getting one for the wife.

im willing to bet all LCI models are designed during the initial design of their models. its basically "lets get this out there and then plan to do this to them in 3 years. Okay, whats next after that?"

I was confused about the boxy statement as well. How is this boxy? The G wagon is boxy, not an X5. It's a good balance of masculinity lines.

If he wanted a girly shaped car, get a Cayenne.

If you look at the front of the car you can see the chiseled and squared off looks which will be introduced as the new "X" design language on the forthcoming X3.
You can also see the subtle cut-outs for L-shaped headlights and a wide open grille at the front of the car.
Here it is similar except the new interpretation involves the headlights not to connect to the grille but to join with the grille so the headlights look as if they have melted into the grille.

At the rear and evident here is the kicked up rear hofmeister again fast becoming an "X" characteristic. This time it is sharp due to the angular design elements. Running around the rear quarter light and under the glasshouse is a strong upper break above the split character line. This runs the length of the glasshouse right down to the front corners.

The character line is totally re-invented. It is more three dimensional and joins elements that provide areas such as the rear taillights to melt inwards to the body leaving imprints in the metal around the lights, the same goes for the front lights also.

The new car will be offered with Laser-Light and OLED Lighting
More importantly X5 comes with a Carbon Core therefore sheds extra weight over the current modified E/F car.
Its more sportier definition is in place to accommodate the all new BMW X7.

This thing just looks like it gets bigger and bigger. They just should have made an X7. Bigger is not always better! I love the X4 platform and size, awaiting a full M version.

The above two photos/renderings look awesome! Way more sportier, but is that the real X5?

Wow im pleasantly surprised, not only by the renders, which look pretty interesting and futuristic, but that they started testing so early! When will we see the X3?

Nice having owned an X5 and now an X3 it is the X3 that needs updating first!! Starting to feel a bit outdated and with new Jaguar F Pace just about to launch that might get my order in 2017 in the absence of a new X3

The third generation X3 will be with us in 2017.
The X model line will be completely revitalised and expanded by 2020.

So the kidneys have it's own X language, like on these pictures?
But i don't understand the timeline on this new X, the F15 came like 2 years ago, the LCI should be here within a year or two...
So basicly the F15 is here to stay until 2020 at least.
Then why is the new model here allready?
Usually there is about 4ish years in development for a new model, so for this to show up now... I'm confused!

I agree, this is really pretty early. Don't know what this is supposed to mean, whether the F15 will be replaced earlier than usual (which would suprise me) or they just want some more time to test and develop the successor.
