Is there a reason why BMW don't use all LEDs?

I've always wondered about this. Why don't the heck BMW uses all LEDs in the bulbs that are used on the cars like the back up bulb, turn signals and etc? Are there old laws that prevents this?

It's probably because the LCI updates forgot to update an overlooked specification that came with the launch of the F10 5-series?

It's actually not about $$$ so much. LED diodes are far cheaper than other types of light bulbs and far more efficient at using power too. The reason is because of marketing and scale-ability of products. Exactly the same reason why BMW didn't release the first 2 models years of the M5 with the Competition Package, they have to introduce something new to keep a product relevant for the market and people wanting more. The 3-Series is also the perfect example. They always release the LCI of the 3-Series with LED Tail Lights, even though, we all know that they have the capability and technology, to make a 3-Series with LED Tail Light from the very first model year. Other car manufacturers do things different and include LED's in backup lights, turn signals, etc, at no additional cost to the consumer.

As far as laws go though, the USA is far far behind other countries, especially European ones. We won't be getting Laser Headlights here in the USA anytime soon unfortunately.

I figured redoing the lights for led would cost money for the redesign so they would just cheap out and leave some of the light assemblies as is.

I agree with you but we're well-into the F10 LCI, and if BMW held back LED's to make this platform more appealing, maybe they overlooked this?

IIRC the F3x & F8x 3-series has LED interior lights, even pre-LCI.

Didn't the pre LCI M5s have LED front signal lights and it went back to Non-LCD signal lights for Xenon Headlights after LCI?

I just can't wrap my head around on why no 100% LCD bulbs in this day and age. Especially when we are paying over $100k for a vehicle here. I can understand it about 10 years ago or a base model 3 series, but in 2015 on a M5 ?!?!?!
