A dealer will upgrade you anytime if he can make money off your old vehicle. I was 18 months in on a 36 month lease on a 2012 750i. I simply walked into a dealer and said "I love my 750 but want an M5. Can you make the numbers work?". They got me out of my high mileage 7 series with no penalty, into a 2012 M5. Lower lease payments per month than I was paying for the 750i as well.

A motivated dealer can work wonders lol

I hope you are just being somewhat facetious about the 550i being a POS. I will take in on faith from those of you that own an M5 after owning a 550i, that the M5 represents a quantum leap. But calling a 550i a POS seems a bit harsh.

Again, if you were just being facetious, then, good one.

Nope. Just bring your M5 into the dealer you want to buy from and have them look at the numbers. Your lease is with BMWFS so you can take it anywhere. Worst case scenario is that nothing can be done at this time.

True story. I went from 09 M3 to the POS you mention that I mentioned. Big mistake. 550i is a glorified caprice classic. Unless you have a stage 4 tune. Then you are king!

You can always swap out the trim for the CF retrofit.

Btw -- congrats! Great day!

Congrats
Lol. UNC M 5 that is hilarious. Sounds like me and my wife. Lol. I'm new to this Forum and and really enjoying the threads. I have a 2011 535 M sport that I am trading in for the M5. It's on the boat as I write this. Cant wait for it. The reviews were not all grt in the mags but all I read here is that it's an awesome driving machine. I'll post pics once I get it.

Finally some pics

Sorry guys. I was in such a hurry to post about my exciting day that I did not include any photos. I had to downsize the jpeg file size from my Digital SLR in order to be able to upload them so I apologize if the resolution isn't the best.

It's been a week and a half now in the Beast and I just can't stop smiling when I'm driving it. It truly is an amazing machine.

I noticed that some of the replies on this thread mention that the 550xi M Sport is a POS. I think that's rather harsh. It is a stellar automobile and anyone would be lucky to drive one. Let's be honest - anyone who can manage to drive around a plus $70K car is doing pretty well. The M Sport package, M detailing, and AWD capability makes that car very special. I consider myself extremely fortunate (as anyone should on this M5 forum) that I had the opportunity to move into the M5.

My earlier point about the differences between the cars is just that - a point. They are not comparable anymore than an S6 would be to the M5. The cars are simply different. The M will not appeal to everyone. In that case perhaps the 550 is the perfect car for some.

Happy driving!! The Indy 500 just finished and now I have the urge to track my car next weekend!!!
