Rear tyres?

Hi All,

Only recently got my M5 (2016). I have a few questions about traction control.

I moved from an RS6 and found with the AWD I could pretty much put my foot down and it would take off.

I have been driving the M5 for a few days but notice that the traction control kills all power. Even in the dry it seems to want to just spin the rear wheels every time!

I am 99% sure its my poor driving, is it better to pull off say half throttle to get the wheels moving then put the power down.

If I turn off traction control, will I just put myself in a tree?

Is it possible to get wider rear tyres?

Like you I recently came from 4WD, RS6, RS3, S3, S7 and although great traction and cars they were soooo boring.

My car is the same, wants to light up the tyres at every opportunity. I guess its just a case of being more gently in these compare to the RS

I changed my rear camber from -1.8 degrees to -1.0 degrees and that has defiantly improved traction. Not sure what negative effect it will have on the handling once the weather changes for the better, only time will tell.

I have MPSS on currently and plan to change to MPS4 or R888R or NITTO NT05R not decided yet.

you can go 305 on standard wheels and 315 on wider wheels.

Thanks for the reply - totally agree the M5 is so much more fun.

All the time unless I want to have some real fun (weather is terrible up here). I have only had this one for a few weeks but owned one about 4 years ago and once you get familiar with how they handle running in MDM is the best of both worlds. Would not recommend in winter and wet though, you can get REALLY sideways very quickly lol

I feel ya. Are you tuned or stock? Go to 305 in the rear. R888s or PS4s. that's how I'm going to solve it.

I would suggest learning the car w/ full traction ON, then go to MDM and get comfortable there and, lastly, try traction off under the right conditions.

I run 305 rears and it has been helpful but this car has a very difficult time getting the power to the ground and traction’s a challenge.

Take your time and learn the car gradually and in the right conditions.

Good Luck.

It all depends on how much power is on the car......To get power to the ground at 600whp+ you need 315 r888r on the street but will last 5k miles like any other drag street radial....otherwise any street tire will smoke on 1st gear +
.....I will be testing 305 NT05 soon but not expecting much traction..

bummer to hear that. I'm about to throw the New Pilot sports or r888s in 305 on a stock wheel. unless I pick up a pair of the ADVS which can fit a 315 or more. sounds like the latter makes more sense to get this power down on our cars

TC has 3 modes. Hold the TC button to turn off TC completely.

Btw everyone has traction issues.

I priced PS4 today. My PZeros will last until late spring, and then they are gone.

Which will fit better on a lowered car R888R 315/30/20 or 305/35/20

I had some rubbing on R888 315/30/20 in hard turns or heavy rear load
