Did the stage 1 cause I was able to grab it for like $200.. Figured I would give it a go.

No. Mine is from an invoice for an F10 M5 that had its motor replaced with a brand new motor from BMW Germany under BMW warranty in April so I guess the mark up you were quoted must have been a quote if you bought an engine from BMW outright. Labour was around $6k on top.

All you need to know is the motor was new on that F10 M5. Maybe your SA quoted you including labor or maybe they were just trying to make you feel better that you had a blown engine.
I saw that M5s new motor when it arrived shipped from Germany to my BMW dealership. Brand new motor. To add.. I know that the BMW tech used existing turbos etc from the old engine on the new one.. Maybe that explains the difference in price..
