Help Me Select a Flash Tune?

Hi folks,

With all the new OBD flash tunes surfacing, I'm having a hard time understanding the differences, and ultimately which is right for me.

The majority of my motivation to do this is to allow for catless downpipes without causing trouble codes or other side effects.

I'd like to see:
  • Easy, offline flashing and rollback to factory, with no effect on the flash counter, ideally without a proprietary flash cable.
  • Catless downpipe support
  • Add burble
  • Low-to-moderate power gain--not looking to see 680WHP; a modest gain is more than adequate (93 octane map?)

As far as I can tell, I think BPM or bootmod3 are my two best options, although I'm having a hard time discerning between them.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance guys.

Small world. I have been trying to figure out the same thing and also located near Tampa. From the reseach I have done Mission seems to have a proven ODB tune but cant seem to find any dyno numbers with it on 93?>

BM3- the power comes on very smoothly and OEM like. It also gives gives you access to several tuners that can dial in exactly what you are looking for. The cable used for flashing is not exclusive to BM3. It’s very good!

Don't you still have to remove the ECU to make the bm3 to work?

ODB2 is just a method to load the tune files, vs pulling the DMEs....the tune doesn't change.

You can search my threads on mission performance dyno #s, I mix e85 and 91, so similar to 93.

Nope, it’s basically plug and play with a computer. You won’t regret it! I went stage 1, which I believe will keep the stock clutches happy.

Go with Mission Performance or BPM. Both have great customer support and will get you the performance that you want. Also, just a word of advice, even with an old BMS Stage 1 tune, I experienced accelerated clutch wear. Going above factory rated torque at all you will see accelerated clutch wear, though the lower the torque numbers the less your clutch will wear. Clutch upgrades are a worthwhile investment if you intend on keeping the car for a while. Good luck.

Ok don’t laugh. Is there any tuning that produces any worthwhile gains on 91 pump gas and passes CA smog?

I have a 6 speed manual so I guess I don't have to worry about clutch wear as much as the dct guys?

Out of everything on my wishlist, a power increase is the lowest priority. So I think I can avoid having to go custom tune.

Basically I’m looking for an offline stage 1 tune I can back out at will, gives me a burble, prevents O2 codes, and doesn’t change the flash counter.

BM3 is my personal choice. Great power delivery and interface. Can't be beat for the price in my opinion. Feel free to PM me with questions / a price quote!

Oh I’m good with a power boost, it’s just not the primary motivator. Buying a $5,500 exhaust and not being able to enjoy it because of stock downpipes is the motivation lol.

Ah! Perfect! Forget everything I said then. You are fine.

Gotcha, then VF Engineering is a good option. They have burbles

I think you'll love our flash tune. Installation is a breeze and we've tuned quite a few manuals with fantastic results. No problem adding burble and our platform never required an internet connection or any computer configuration. 93 octane is ideal, flash counter will freeze and stay locked, and flashing back to your original stock version is easily accomplished. The flash cable is proprietary but this is by design and ensures quality and consistency of the flashing hardware. Let us know if you have any questions!

I love my Gintani tune and their burble feature is . It brings a grin to my face every time I drive it... And it made a modest 607rwhp on 91 (race gas is a whole different story though ).

Do I buy the bm3 first from protuning freaks and them purchase a tune through HCP or can everything from start to finish be bought from HCP?
