M5 1/8 mile 7.61@105.39mph prep for 1/4

Figured I would post this up for additional thoughts and discussion.

Car details:

Fuel: 93 mixed with E85 (10 gallons to 1) JB4/BCM - meth (50 additive) - MSR intake & charge pipes - R888's on 20inch OEM.

I need more work on my 60ft as I really didn't have a clean launch and couldn't go WOT till 2nd, after that it took off and felt good. Really wanting to try for 10s this year. I had too much air in tires at 29psi, so will lower that. Also, I am still working out the bugs in my burn outs given we can't stand on the brake.

Thanks as always to George at MSR for being there as a resource on every M5 topic and Terry for giving me thoughts on data logs!

Your 1/8 mile mph translates to 130+mph in the 1/4

Yeah, should be pretty solid on trap speed in 1/4. The mph in 1/8 surprised me a bit for the small amount of mods I have.

If you are 105 in the 1/8, you are very likely in the 10's... good work!

50 additive on the new firmware is what 26-27psi? That's probably 750whp and should be trapping 131-132 if conditions are good.

Keep it up!

50 is putting me right around 26psi peak. I was thinking about bumping up to 55 additive, but might wait for the Dodson Clutch packs to go in.

So other than intakes/charge pipes, your on stock turbo with stock dp, x pipe, and axel back to confirm? Nonetheless, that's a good trap speed you'll have in the 1/4 mile. Im just excited about the result with what little mods u had.

It should be slipping at that boost level - there is a point of diminishing returns when it comes to boost. Some of the highest dyno #'s are from 27-28psi and I am talking 800whp+

Yes, I have noticed it slip in higher gears at rpm below 5k or so. I didn't have any slipping at the track, and don't when I do WOT hits from 2nd, as rpms stay in higher rpm bands. I know I would slip if I put it on a DYNO right now.

One other note, on 100% meth.

Based on discussions with George.

I will test 25psi in R888s. Burn out at least through second gear by hitting water box, WOT 1st, click quickly to second and control spin till starts sticking then let off immediately. First run I will ease into throttle to see how well it sticks, if track is prepped good and traction is there try burn out mod second pass. Same burn out, then off line hit WOT on second yellow. Car shoots up to 5krpm then takes off, hope to see it stick! If not, let off.

Additional tips or thoughts?

You may also want to try adding PSI to the front tires about 50psi. the R888 is a street tire. Unlike a drag slick or drag radial it doesn't really get stickier when you heat it up with a burnout. Street tires actually get harder and grip less when they are heated up. You can play with it because it's a soft compound but if your 60 foot isn't where you want it with the burnout I would suggest a very quick one just to clean off the tired and get the water off from the water box and see how you do.

Only got one run in and my start had serious issues. I was worried about my clutch so didn't run again. 1/8 was only 100mph and 1/4 was a laughable 12.2@134.5 as too much spinning in first half. Slowest ET I have ever ran and fastest trap at same time. Clutch packs going in today and I will try again.

Great trap speed! Some back and forth as to whether spinning inflates trap speeds, but contrary to what many say I always hit my highest traps with the quickest 60ft time.

From experience (on both my supercharged E92 M3, and the F10 M5) I hate launching using the kickdown method - the car just revs and dumps the clutch. Usually without sticky tires the car will be a sitting duck lighting up the tires, but with a proper drag radial the abuse goes straight to the DCT/drivetrain. I would much prefer using LC, as it's less abusive all around than the more violent kickdown method.

Looking forward to your numbers, and hearing your feedback on the Dodson clutches.
