Intake comparisons?
Is there a thread comparing all the proven gains/losses, pros/cons of all the different intakes? I think it would be helpful so that we don't have to search for each different intake thread for answers. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a shit show about how one is better than the other and all that.

I figured it would. Too bad because I'm sure it would be helpful like the exhaust comparison thread. Oh well.

There's also Dinan, GruppeM, AFE and a few others.

I have no horse in the race, bro. I bought the RK intake on the secondary market post-IPO. Info I posted above is completely baseless and a matter of opinion not based on relevent facts or data
The only things I have to go off of are a few flow chart numbers, grainy short videos, and members vouching for the product (could even be RK or his friends lol with multiple user names!). Fortunately, I didn't buy into his downpipe debacle!! Note: No one can argue that MSR sounds the best (by a wide margin) or that George gives top notch support. |

Saw something on his Instagram as well. All the people (3-4 approximately) are from NJ, so I don't know what happened there but they are displeased with the quality. I can say that the intakes are well made look cool...havent had time to install yet. I hope they perform! |

I bought the BMS intake set strictly because of the cost. Not much at all in the gain department but wasn't to worried about that, got more than enough power from my Stage 2 BPM tune.
Sound difference is noticeable. You definitely get the WOOSH that's been described, enough to put a smile on your face but not super aggressive. Throttle response seems to be better also. Overall happy with the purchase and would buy again. $429 bucks seemed reasonable to me for the mod- cost aside, I would've went with MSR.

I have posted some data showing the hot air theroy is mainly just hot air lol. Did runs with different set ups from OEM to fully open cone filter - settled on a home made hybrid of BMS filterd and OEM airboxs cut open at the front. Did side by side tests i.e one side of the engine running OEM and the other various set-ups so it was a true apples to apples test. Used multi channel data recorder, multiple thermo couples mounted in locations from in side the engine bay, in front of the radiator, in side the air box in front of the filter, in the inlet pipes between the filter and the throttle and then measured the IATs on my JB4. When the data is over layed the delta is VERY small at idle i.e sat full heat soaked (40+ minutes of hard driving- sat idling for 10 minutes etc on 30+ degree days), as soon as you pull away the temps leveled to OEM. Also not the capacity of the intercoolers meant the small differences were of no significance to the ECU or engine ... same temps and no ignition pulls or throttle closures etc.
The ONLY benefit is sound, I have since gone back to full OEM, have not noticed ANY difference other than sounding smoother. I would save your money and spend elsewhere. I think BMS and Allmotor have said there were VERY small gains but only on realy high HP power levels. Is it worth ingesting dust and dirt like sand from a poorly designed air filter like a dry mesh filter - buy wisely and do your research - there are good and bad out there! Also look out for possible MAF issues from over oiling of oiled cotton. |
