Soft Close Doors
Do you guys have problems with people always slamming them? Im assuming slamming them is ok, as you cant expect all passengers to know to let them close on their own.
Do you guys warn passengers? Dont care? Or never let anyone sit in your M5?!

Also, the doors on the M5 are such that if you slam them they close with a solid thump. Nothing like slamming a Japanese car door that sounds like it is going to break off the hinges. Even my M3 doors didn't "Slam" as well as this car.

I have given a demo of the doors to the people who travel in my car frequently. Others I don't care since it isn't that often that I give a lift to a random stranger.

I never think about it damaging them.
I love the soft close doors! Only downside is that I now seem to be incapable of shutting any other car door effectively.

It's not bad. They're designed and tested for it. I talked at length about this with a few engineers when I was in Germany.

Kids play "who can shut the door the quietest". I open and close the door for the wife. Problem solved. Except for my father in law - he's a slammer. I think it's residual from all of the big GM cars from the 60s and 70s he's owned

Have you ever tried to close a door softly while not letting it latch because maybe its running or something? What happens it it latches and one of your fingers are in the way? What if a child tries to close it that way and the same thing happens. Is there a fail-safe in this case like with the windows when they feel resistance? I did get a disclaimer during my ED - "please be careful with children because the doors can cause injury"

Had soft close doors on my 7 series, and slamming them will not cause a problem. Actually didn't get them on the five wasn't something I wanted this time around due to lack of value for me. Slam away you will have no proplems.

My girlfriend slammed her door during ED. The door actually bounced out and latched itself. Had to pull the handle to unlatch and then close it again. No harm done but I thought that was odd.

It's funny you mention the solid thump on the door close. To me it doesn't sound all that solid, I actually thought it felt like a crap door the first time I closed one. My previous 10 535i had doors like a tank. The new one not so much imo at least.

That's a nice feature to have but has caused me two problems so far. No. 1, I don't seem to be able to close doors on other cars properly now and many people think I am recovering from some illness again. No. 2, it's a pain to watch how other passengers slamming the doors from time to time, even though, it probably won't cause any damages.
