Targa Trophy Experience #1

So...This past Saturday March 23rd 2013, the first of the Targa Trophy events of 2013 was held. The day began at the HRE Wheels Headquarters in Vista California with a morning car meet showcasing some of the most beautiful cars in Southern Cali. This particular event showcased German Supercars, and the best Germany had to offer was definitely represented well. Around 11AM, all the drivers and their navigators were called back to their cars to begin the rally. We were sent all over San Diego County and had a chance to drive some of the best roads SD has to offer for the next 3 hours.

Targa Trophy hosts several of these events each year, and I would recommend attending if you are near any of them. IMHO, the driving experience is as good as it gets short of a track day! It was great to meet up with fellow forum members and share such a great experience. I promise, after Targa, you will find a new & deeper love for your M5!

I can personally attest to this thread as I am a long time Targa Veteran with over 10 rally's under my belt. Each Targa is a blast and the craziest things always happen, to include but not limited to:
- Hot chicks
- Excessive speeds
- Amazing cars
- Amazing people
- Hot chicks
- Highway Races
- Mountain roads
- Wild After Parties
- Hot chicks
- Police cars
- Interstate Shutdowns
- Police Helicopters
- Hot chicks
- Police Drones
- Trophies
- Crazy stories
- And hot chicks

I'm glad to say that I've never had a run in with the law during a rally, but I have had a V10 or two die on me during the rally. Also rescuing friends who run out of gas was always fun too! I'll probably be in the next one this summer.

Dave, I think we found your hidden gem(s) of a road(s). Fantastic.

Too bad about the LEOs that we did encounter. Slowed down the pace considerably

Chris, yes you did drive some of them. A while ago I took Rob out and showed him 80% of the best roads in SD county. Can you almost agree, who needs a track with roads like these?!

Track? No track needed...we'll have to get together and discuss the whole course...it was fantastic.

Sorry for the ignorant question but what is the deal with the police/CHP at this event?

Are they aware of the event and out in full force or is there more leniency?

Is having the Targa stickers on your car a blessing or a curse?

The CHP are definitely not supportive of the event. The stickers are not a curse, but they do make u look like a sore thumb! Lol!

I'd agree with Dave, law enforcement is not supportive. That said though, there is great care taken to be sure that the route is kept secret. But, if you are out late there will be LEOs on the road.

One local sheriff that we passed at one point pointed at the cars and had a smile on his face! I would too seeing all that HP on the road...we just happened to be obeying the limit
