Maybe you can rent one on Turo for a day and see what it feels like, then rent your soul (wouldn't be too late)

This thread isn’t about the first, they have a separate thread for that. This thread is about building the fastest M5....

Great news, I bet you're happy to have her back. Did you get that shorter driveshaft installed? Does your differential brace mount up the way you'd hoped? Are you going to machine some empty space into the billet brace? If not, how much does that chunk of aluminum weigh?

Haven’t mounted the diff mount as of yet. Probably will be Jan before I get to that. Once it’s mounted will figure out if we are going to hollow any portions of it out.

Now the fun part begins:

Picked up the car yesterday from Pure. All the hardware is installed extremely well. All water, oil and pressure lines are custom made and coated with spacecraft quality sheathing to withstand 2000F+. All factory heat shields are in place except for the top and two side ones (just won’t fit). Heat management was one of our primary concerns in the design as the setup needs to be driveable and not melt anything. I drove the 150 miles in traffic and no issues!

I drove the car with boost disabled as I needed to be back to do the boost controller wiring. Terry (BMS) has a special JB4 with integrated BCM made for external WG applications. Wired all that in and HOLY MOLY!

I am currently only at 20-21psi until I have meth installed. Car rips! It honestly feels like 27-28psi in my old setup.

It spools (20psi for now) by 3.9K RPM which is phenomenal for this size turbo. The other application from what I have seen spools closer to 5K RPM, so I am glad the engineering work on the custom manifold and head porting has turned out well.

Both banks track well (we have per bank control as well). IAT, trims etc looking good without any additional fuel source.

My butt dyno says >750whp at 21psi and the top end is insane. All my previous setups would start dying after 6.4K. This pulls like a freight train to 7.2K.

Still running stock exhaust and stock air box. Once I install the meth and start dialing that in I will try an intake and other mods.

Stay tuned for more frequent updates now!

Cars and Coffee anyone?

Still at the 20-22psi level and car ran a 6.3s 60-130. Checked logs and throttle was 50% closed! Pulls like a freight train. Will finish the meth install shortly and then start turning it up!

50%? Are you having traction difficulties even in this beginning stage? Using the R888s? If this is happening at 60, what will happen for the standing start runs? Do the MT slicks handle it that much better?

Throttle issue is something else - working through that as we now understand what it is.

R888’s hook in 3rd so far so let’s see when those stop working. I am sure MT’s can hook 1st gear - will just control boost by gear.

Goal now is to smooth out the boost control in all gears, log and tune for various fuels... then dyno. After that will set to up for the track. I am not a fan of tuning on the dyno as it doesn’t represent reality. It’s a nice measure of relative improvement and marketing numbers.

Just enjoying driving the car again!
