PS3 vs Xbox 360
Help me decide! Everyone and their dog plays Xbox, but I can't understand why. The PS3 is superior in almost every way. The first Xbox 360's didn't even come with HDMI or WiFi and it's still playing catch-up. It's frustrating to me that developers design their games around the 360 when the PS3 is a better console. It is also even more frustrating that I can't play the same game my friend has even though we have different consoles. If I was to play Counter Strike on my Gateway running windows 95, I could play against my friend on his Alienware running Windows 7 and it wouldn't cost extra because I'm already paying for internet service.
For me, these are the pros and cons for each: PS3 + GT5 + Blu Ray + Free online play - No one seems to play - Possibly due to the seemingly superior online Xbox experience Xbox + Everyone and their dog + Ability to play custom soundtrack - Very poor reliability. I've heard as many as 55% suffer from RROD - $60 a year for something that should be free - Bulky power supply

PS3 all day. I've had Wii, Xbox360, and PS3 for roughly the same amount of time and the only one that ever gets used is the PS3. FWIW, I don't know a single person who plays Xbox - everyone I know has PS3... because it's better.

Choose based on what your friends have and what games you want to play. Online play is 100x better when playing with friends you know so its worth choosing for that reason alone.
The new (well now 1 year old) Xbox slim has something like a 5% failure from the same problem that caused the RRoD in the past. Xbox live does usually go on sale for $40 and its worth every penny imo. |

100% this, but also as posted, get the system that your friends play. This should be your real determining criteria All of my friends stopped playing console games (and largely computer games), so that's why the ps3 got my vote. If they |

I'd go with ps3 unless your friends are pretty exclusive to Xbox online playing. Blue ray and Netflix streaming is pretty sweet and the ps3 is a very good quality blue ray player and even decodes lossless True Audio.

Very true, it's hard to find a better DVD player unless you are shelling out a lot of money, and even then you aren't getting the ability to play games. I did a lot of research on this before I bought it, and I have been very pleased with the Blu Ray quality.

The 360 has PS3 beat by about 5 million units worldwide. However, it's interesting to note the sales demographics. 13.5M PS3s have been sold in the United States, while the 360 nearly doubles that at 25.4M. I gets even more interesting when we look at the sales of the PS3 and Xbox in Japan. 6.3M vs 1.5M, respectively. It's no secret that Japan is a more well educated nation than the US. Sales in other similar coutries indicate the same.
That being said, most of my friends to play on Live, with a select few playing on the PSN. I guess I think my friends are dumb, but I love them just the same. Haha. Still torn! Maybe I can convince my friends to get the PS3 and we can all be happy. Another check mark for the Xbox is its awesome controller. My hands are pretty big and I find it a bit difficult to hold the Playstation controller comfortably. There must be a contoller that has a similar design to the Xbox that can be used on the PS3, right?

Anybody else care to chime in with something else that hasn't been covered before I take the plunge? I'm set on getting a PS3 this weekend, especially after the $50 price drop and no tax at the exchange.
