Stealth, did you mount the LI boxes vertically in the kidney grills or horizontally in the lower air intakes?

I'd like to get the LI, but don't think the BMW version in the grills appeals to me...seems too visible and ugly. thoughts?

I've seen the display installed in an air vent. That is discreet and works well.

A lot of people think thats gonna be too low in the air intakes. Check out this install: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...-bmw-335d.html

Vertical is not gonna be effective, that's why I didn't get the LI BMW version. But I really don't want to cut the grills, so, I am gonna install mine in the lower air intakes, but I got he HP version, so hopefully this gonna help.

Why would LI sell a BMW specific version if it wasn't effective vertically as designed?

Are the jammers illegal in all states?

No they are legal in most states. The exceptions are as follows

Your GT3 RS is detectable by Radar detector detector devices used commonly across detector-illegal states such as Virginia. Mine isn't. That's what I prefer about the 9500ci. I do however like the fact that your display has no labelling. Mine, however, is not located in a place that's easily visible from outside the driver window (believe me this was carefully planned before hand and researched).

Dude, just don't get a ticket defense system is all. If you get pulled over for speeding, does it really matter is a cop suspects that device over there might be a display for a stealth radar detector??? Really? You're caught. Your setup failed.

Vertical will work for most shots, but they get tricky in off axis. its much safer to have a horizontal setup to have standard LIs

They use the same radar antenna, the same CPU, only with different software.

So I believe your assertion is flawed.

You can change the display on yours if you want. Since these are the same detector except yours doesn't have band segmentation, the parts are interchangeable. Escort can sell you the unmarked red display.

In states where they are illegal, the cops use devices to identify use of detectors. They don't rely on looking in your car when you're stopped. Any idiot can stash any detector in a glove box after being pulled over.

Stealth, do you have pics of your install?

Stealth, you've obviously spent alot of time looking at all this, do you have your install complete in your F10 M5 yet? If so, can you post some pictures of both interior and exterior? If not, what are you planning for install especially with your front exterior components?? thanks!

I haven't got my M5 back from the European Delivery yet.

However I have a good sense of placement because I had the same system on my 2012 550i M-Sport which seems very similar to the M5 in physical size and shape.

I can tell you the grille placement of the vertical BMW sensors is quite effective. The lower intake placement will work best with the mor expensive HP sensors. The HP sensors are ridiculous - if installed right the car is a black hole.

I am not 100% certain the placement in the lower intake will work on the M5 - it is slightly different in shape than the 550i M-Sport. The best way to find out is to do it and then test it.

BTW testing the setup is really important. Please don't ask a copper to test it. Do it yourself or find someone like me who has a gun. Some guys also rent them on eBay. Also lets not post photos on threads like this since it makes it too obvious.

I have had the 9500 ci installed in three vehicles. Two i placed in the rearview mirror. One I placed in the cigarette lighter area.
I really like the rearview mirror install. Its easily visible even in daylight and allows you to keep your eyes on the road. Red is more easily seen than blue in my opinion. Plus the rearview mirror install is pretty cool. cost me $500 to remove mirror, install in mirror and reinstall mirror in vehicle.
I dont really like the cigarette install in our X5 because it sits behind the cup holders. Hence anytime a beverage is in the cup holder, you really cant see the display.
I had a quick kill switch installed in all systems in case the laser jammers came on I could slow down quickly, turn off the complete unit and hence disable the laser jammers once I reached an acceptable speed. Laser jammers are illegal in Cali.
If anyone is interested, i had my install at Sounds Good Audio and Video in Woodland Hills CA. Ask for jeremy, they did a great job with a clean install.
email me at inagua@mac.com and I can send pics to anyone thats interested
