Auto Start/Stop Setting

the default setting of start/stop of my car is always 'ON' every time you start the engine (although the owner's manual suggests otherwise). It's pretty annoying. Dealer says they can recode it to remember the last setting, but there will be a charge for doing it, which is ridiculous.

Is there a simple DIY way to recode it ?

Thanks in advance for sharing.

What year is your car?

US 2013 cars remember on/off preference. Dealer should fix for free.

Mine is 2012. Picked it up 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for the info on coding DIY, but with the cable, files, PC, etc., don't think I'll be able to do it.

Dealer is charging USD 150 for recoding that, & I will fight to get it waived.

Personally, I'd be happy to pay that to have it done.

Mine is always off. Push the button under the start/stop. Mine is always in the off position and I have never even tried to use that stop feature. Hope this helps is you haven't already tried it.

I did turn it off using that button, but the next time I start the ignition, it is automatically 'ON' again by default setting.

In the US, it's free (re-programming). You should fight it.

I have noticed the last 6 weeks, that my Start/Stop never turns off the engine, even if activated all the time. Not a single stop!

I guess itīs the temperature? Has been below freezing all this time.

Useless feature, if you ask me.

Earlier this year when I was working in Haifa Israel, all mercedes taxis had this feature. I hated it but hey it is what they were using. I know the reason behind it on this car, but don't think they should have included it.

Start/Stop shutting down the engine depends on various things, like driving mode, movement of the steering wheel, etc. If you're at a standstill but keep fidgeting with the steering wheel it will not shut down the engine.

But to your point the programming might also be different on cars sold in colder climates.

From the manual:
Quote:
The engine is not switched off automatically in the following situations:
  • External temperature below approx. +37℉/ 3℃.

Guess itīs different on other F10 models?
My friend said his M550d still shuts down the engine, even below +3 deg.

Got mine fixed too. Together with losing the disclaimer screen on startup, it improves the driving experience nicely.
