California F10's any different?

I'm looking into purchasing a 2014 F10 M5 that has lived it's life on SoCal. While the likely lack of salt exposure is desirable, I'm curious if there were any functional differences in the cars to be CARB-compliant?

The carbon filter and cats will come off anyway, so I'd say you are in good shape.

CA cars are inherently quicker...

A little reading seems to point to the inherent quickness being a placebo effect, as the BMW line is 50 states legal.

you can't even say California cars don't have salt exposure. If you live near the ocean = salt exposure.

That said, salt exposure is something to be concerned about from 40 years ago. You're not buying some rusty Pontiac from a rusty shoe salesman.

You should be more concerned about the maintenance history of the car than anything else.

This kind of made me chuckle when your concern is buying a car in Cali that doesn't see salt is sorta what you want than say buying out here in the Midwest or East Coast where it snows and they drop tons of salt on the roads?

I'd love to say newer cars are immune to salt, but they certainly do still corrode (although it's usually not to the same degree).

I've certainly checked the maint hx (carfax and dealer side). Just thinking of those last few "what if" questions.

Make sure it doesn't have water in the radiator if you plan on taking it into cooler climates ??

again I think your concern is unwarranted. Your main concern should be getting a mechanically sound car with records of proper maintenance.

M4ever: Good point. It'll be going from warm temps to our frozen tundra this week here in Indiana.

edit: Just saw your post regarding first hand issues with frozen coolant. Sorry to hear!
